Arsenal 0 Chelsea 3
29 November 2009
Big clash Sunday! Arsenal faced local London rivals Chelsea today in a bid to close the gap Chelsea have at the top of the table.
Positive start from Arsenal as Cesc Fabregas had the first chance of the match as his low effort was saved with ease by Petr Cech in the centre of his goal.
Arsenal were dominant early on in the game, keeping possession well in midfield but nothing special so far in the final third.
19 minutes into the game, Chelsea had their first clear chance Nicolas Anelka took control of Lampard’s through ball but Sagnawas able to battle back and produce a challenge. There were shouts for a penalty but the referee decided to wave play-on.
22 minutes in Lampard’s corner from the right fell to Mikel outside the Arsenal box. His lofted ball forward was headed straight at Almunia in the centre of his goal by Drogba. Tame effort!
A minute later Arsenal responded with their own attack. Nasri producedd some neat skill to cut in from the right and sent a driven effort straight at Cech in the centre of his goal.
30 minutes in, Eduardo is brought down in the box by Ashley Cole, however nothing was awarded as the Croatian was offside.
Chelsea have another chance at goal, off-target though as Drogba headed Joe Cole’s cross from the right high over the top of the bar.
41 minutes in and Arsenal concede. Ashley Cole’s cross from the left hand side of the Arsenal boxwas turned home by a volley from Drogba. The ball bounced off the bar and far post of Almunia’s goal to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead.
3 minutes later Arsenal concede again, this time from an own goal by Vermaelen. Ashley Cole sent in a low cross from the left which was met by Vermaelen after bouncing off the wet pitch. Arsenal 0 Chelsea 2.
Half-time score Arsenal 0 Chelsea 2.
Straight into the second half and Arsenal attack. Eduardo took control of Arshavin’s neat pass but he ran out of space as the ball drifted through to Cech.
49 minutes in and Arsenal found the back of the net, only for it not to count. Arshavin fired home after a goalmouth scramble but free-kick was awarded a foul on Cech.
64 minutes in Nasri’s free-kick from the right was headed straight at Cech in the centre of his goal by Fabregas. Still no breakthrough!
It could have been a third for Chelsea all but for Almunia. Drogba’s effort took a deflection off Gallas to meet with Lampard’s chest. The ball looked to be going into the bottom corner but Almunia managed to get a strong hand to it.
71 minutes in and Arsenal had a penalty appeal turned down as Vela went down in the box. Referee waved play-on.
Arsenal continued to push forward but nothing seemed to come through for them.
85 minutes in Cesc gave away a free-kick after bringing down Essien. Drogba took the free-kick which travelled all the way to right hand side of Arsenal’s goal. 3-0 to Chelsea.
Some strong challenges came in during the closing minutes of the match but nothing to add to the scoreline. Final score Arsenal 0 Chelsea 3.Full match report here.
Really disappointing match. : ( End of our home run. 11 points behind Chelsea now and our 4th defeat.
I thought Arsenal started superbly but failed to take advantage of their dominant possession. Can I say I miss RVP!
Here’s hoping we bounce back! Let me know your comments.

yeah, everyone supports their team, I support Arsenal, Taylor supports Chelsea
ali , really ? i will never understand why someone is cheering for chelski , WHATEVER …
the game wasnt as excited as i thought it’s gonna be , the tempo of the game was slow most of the time , no sharpness ,and chelsea didnt play that good , most of the time they defended with 10 men and i cant such a team a champ , sorry taylor .
cool, i know. I was just kidding. I respect who everyone supports and why, I can understand why taylor supports chelsea.
yes….. what can i say, they played well the first half. But after the 3rd goal it was all chaos. And btw, Cesc ended 12nd place in ballon dor……ffs
I’m still gutted about it to be honest. We’ve had so much possession, it sucks that ourgoal was disallowed and that we did’t get more in.
The ref was also shit- I’m pretty sure we had a couple of penalties. Arsenal played better- I’m not saying it because I’m a fan- they didn’t play badly- if they were shit I’d be fine with them losing but they weren’t.
Hopefully they see it as a lesson learned and get it together, and win some matches. We cant bet them the next time we meet them- and we can still get back in the race- Chelsea haven’t been hit by injuries yet or had a bad run.
I’m keeping the faith like you said Belinda!
i am also frustrated for the fact arsenal had a lot of possession and failed to convert them into goals….i feel that the arsh goal should be counted as a goal…i believe it can change the whole game….
i seriously feel that arsenal deserved to win the game…..chelsea were just lucky with their chances….
i think arsenal will be much stronger after this humiliation defeat….i couldn’t that they said the match is like boys vs men…..so not…
many would say that arsenal are out the title race but mathematically i think arsenal has a chance to close the gap ……if thay didn’t slip up against the minor teams…….
i believe chelsea can drop as many points hopefully…..nvrmind that we will beat chelsea thenext round we meet them…
i’m scared that cesc will leave the club if they don’t win any silverware this year……it’s his priority to win silverware here….
any ways cesc is getting cuter and cuter …loves his hairstyle………he looks better without the beard he used to have…………..
have faith guys in arsenal …they will never let you down
nothing to show for our possession. we were not good enough. i was very frustrated with
eduardo. we don’t have strikers and could do with more defenders. am gutted with the back-to-
back defeats.
this time last season was the most difficult for the gunners but they recovered towards new year n started the unbeaten run even without cesc..
hope they will recover soon even without rvp.i think they need time too regroup after so many injuries.
i am not worry much up front but witout clichy n gibb for along time sure pressure enough .
Arsenal is known for weak defence ..now is weaker still.
This game was so frustrating. I have no words. I really hope we start getting goals in again from somewhere.
Ali- Some of the Cesc fans that come on here do not support Arsenal. Some people are fans of him because they support the Spanish NT, but don’t support Arsenal, and others like him as a player, but don’t support the club.
Taylor- Lool. No thanks. You can keep him.
we really dont want him back, thanks. and he’d have to be free!
How can you support chelsea but like cesc? I wouldnt be able to
don’t like cashley – you can have him back!
becasue i’m a blues supporter! but i like cesc
I was watching it with my friends who are chelsea fans and I had to kick them out my house.
And what has been said about arsenal since has been so frustrating- all that nonsense about men vs kids. Chelsea are cheats and did not deserve that win.
And what can I say about cashley cole? He makes me feel sick…
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!! i am soo like that…..and how can you be GLAD chelsea won??? really.
i only watch the 1st half…after that i chickened out..
too sad n scared to carry on.
i’m glad chelsea won but gutted he did not score
At halftime we were 2-0 down and what most hurt is that we dont know why. The Chavs were
more than clinical with their chances. Why the ref. did not gave the goal from Arshawin is
beyond me. I would guess that if United would have scored that goal, it were allowed.
This changed everything. I think Arsenal overall were very unlucky and I am very frustrated by
the loss tonight. I think and hope the Chavs will win nothing. They are a one man show and
a disgrace to watch.
im so gutted that we lost, we played so well but just never got the ball in the back of the net. Cesc’s hair looked so cute when it was wet aswell
