Arsenal 4 AZ Alkmaar 1 + Cesc post match interview

cescvaz5Arsenal took on AZ Alkmaar, in the home leg of this fixture. After AZ scored a disppointing equaliser in Holland the last time round, Arsenal were keen to show thier winning potential.

AZ Alkmaar showed more attack in the first 5 minutes of the match then they did when they were home. Arsenal too, started the game positively, with an early chance falling to van Persie adfter some slick passing movement. So many slick passes before Van Persie thunders a strike at goal, which ends up going slightly wide.

Arsenal were awarded another chance after 11 minutes of play after the AZ goalie picked up a back-pass. Van Persie was unable to covert the indirect free kick which was just yeards off goal. Their wall stood firm!

Breakthrough after 26 minutes of play after much domination and control. Fabregas picked up the ball near the left channel up around AZ’s area. He shifted the ball twice onto his right foot and then strikes it very softly at goal. But the low shot is well placed, Romero was caught out as the ball rolled in at the near post. 1-0 Arsenal.

Just before half-time, Arsenal found the back of the net once again. Arshavin threaded a lovely ball through to Nasri who make a mockery of his marker, then curled low into the bottom corner to give Arsenal a 2-0 lead before half-time. Terrific goal.

Arsenal got the second half under way. It took 12 minutes for yet another breakthrough. AZ lost the ball in a dangerous area, Arshavin led the attack to play a perfect ball into the path of Fabregas, who curled home with aplomb. Cesc scores his 2nd for the night and Arsenal 50th goal of the season. 3-0 to Arsenal.

AZ had a great chance to reduce the deficit. After receiving a deep cross, Pelle strikes at goal, however Almunia was quick to get his hands on the ball, leaving the ball to come off the woodwork.

72 minutes into game the Gunners counter-attack after Eduardo pulled off a brilliant back-heel. Arshavin powered through and squared the ball to Diaby, who took a touch and then fired home expertly. 4-0 to Arsenal.

No clean sheet for Arsenal as AZ counter after an Arsenal penalty appeal, Lens found his way through and fired low past Almunia, who should have done better. Arsenal 4 AZ 1.

Arsenal saw the game out pretty comfortably. Full time score Arsenal 4 AZ Alkmaar 1. Full match report here:

  • What a down to earth guy (and crikey how laid back does he seem in this interview)! Fabulous interview (not only is his accent of course lovely) but he certainly has a talent for talking about his game and his team without getting ahead of himself. Seems very much the Arsenal culture this year, of course silverware would be fantastic but they seem to have their eyes on the prize and know where they want to go.

An outstanding performance once again and he is still so young, I sense good things to come :) Lost of players seem to be proving their worth for Arsenal this year and it looks fairly promising so far!

Keep up the good work and I’m sure it will be rewarded!

  • it’s a hard job to be a fooballer, I think. keep going on, till the end, but they are on the right track, of course it’s just the beginning, but I think as a fan you can enjoy these games, too, it’s not the only benefit to win the title in the end, of course you want to reward the hard work over the whole year, bla bla, great interview though, his accent is nice, I always have to smile about his ‘important’ , they roll the r , don’t they? or they emphasize the o, I don’t know, sounds a bit funny, it was a good game, there will be ups and downs as ever, hopefully with the best results…………:!:

  • LOL:) Cesc: “I will feel something special when we win something” Sorry I just had to.

Sounded like GOOD game. I love how well Arsenal are doing but keeping it low key. All the attention right now (in my perspective) is focused on how bad liverpool are doing. Funny how so many opinion polls and pundits thought that Arsenal was going to have difficulty making the top four.

I hope we do finally do win some silver this year and it looks like its possible with Cesc being in outstanding form and the defensive/organization improvement. So many of our players are coming into their own.

    **great website, excellent job :)
