Arsenal 3 Tottenham 0

cescvspurs1The first north London derby of the season saw Arsenal home to their local rivals Tottenham Hotspurs.

Arsenal started off the match on the upper hand with an early chance for Bendtner after some good work from Van Persie and Arshavin. However, the Dane drilled his shot high over the bar from 20 yards.

Tottenham were soon to find their feet, with the game only slightly in Arsenal’s favour within the first twenty minutes.

After 37 minutes played, Arsenal made their first change, with Eduardo coming on for an injured Bendtner, who looked to have pulled his groin.

Both teams were attacking with menace, the ball seems to be travelling from one side to the other fairly quickly, with not must luck.

Breakthrough came after 42 minutes when Sagna sent in a low ball from the right with van Persie getting in front of King to prode the ball past Gomes at his near post from around seven yards. Score: 1-0 to Arsenal.

A second goal came immediately after at 43 minute mark (11 seconds after RVP’s goal) when Spurs’ Palacios gifted Arsenal with the ball straight from kick off. Fabregas picked things up and set off on a run that ended with a shot from 18 yards past Gomes. Incredible goal and minute! Score: 2-0 Arsenal.

Half time soon approached with the scoreline at 2-0 to Arsenal.

The second half started fairly quietly. However, a third goal came after 60 minutes of play. The goal came after the linesman signalled for a foul on Sagna, however advantage was played by the referee Mr Clattenburg. Sagna then restarted his run, crossed in low for Van Persie, who tapped in Arsenal’s third goal past Gomes, who should have done alot better.

Tottenham had their won chance to reduce the deficit when Keane form left of the box, however his shot was well saved by Almunia.

Arsenal had a late chance to get a fourth goal after Ramsey went on a run, he lost his marker through a hamstring injury, however his cross let him down and the game finished 3-0 to Arsenal. Full match report here.

  • the 11 second derby was amazing!
spurs were playing good but u knew they were playing for a point!
there was no desire from them
and our little mestro is too clever but i think it’s well too unfair that every1 saying it was tottenham
fault for the goal not Cesc’s brillence!

  • first half I would consider as ‘effective’, I think the second was much better for Arsenals passing game and control, if Spurs would have scored first… I don’t know what would have happened, but it went great for Arsenal, the first two gaols came for me out of nothing, then a sudden glimpse of perfectionism or how could you call it? I miss the right words, extraordinaryly, curious match, I think it was more a defensive performance despite those great goals, first half in any case, if they can vary their games in these ways, it’s perfect

  • It was an average performance from the Gunners. We scored at a right time and hit the Spuds
badly before the half time. Second half we were in control and should scored more goals.
Fab had a good game overall. He was involved in all good situation for the Gunners. His
    goal was outstanding.
