West Ham 2 Arsenal 2
25 October 2009
Arsenal were away at Upton Park today to face a nervy West Ham, who haven’t won a premier league game since the start of the season.
Arsenal took control of the match from the opening minutes of the match, causing some problems for the West Ham defence.
West Ham too created some good chances with Carlton Cole in particular looking like West Ham’s strongest and most willing player.
16 minutes into the game, breakthrough came when Sagna’s looping cross from the right was punched straight to van Persie by Green and the Arsenal striker was happy to send his effort into the back of an empty net. Arsenal lead 1-0.
As Arsenal became seriously dominant with possession, the tempo of the game slowed down with Arsenal working on their passing flair.
A second goal was added to the score sheet as Van Persie’s corner from the right was powered home by Gallas’ header from five yards. Parker attempted to clear the ball off the line but he could only help the effort on its way. Arsenal lead 2-0.
Not much else happened in the first half. Arsenal were in possession of the ball and in total control of the match.
The second half got underway with the same slow tempo and Arsenal in possession. There were a couple of attempts but nothing with substance.
Some energy was gained when West Ham made a substitution. West Ham drove forward on a couple of occasions but failed to test Mannone.
Fabregas had a go from long-range as his swerving effort from 30 yards went narrowly wide of Green’s left hand post. That would have been a great goal. Unfortunate.
West Ham’s changes seems to do the trick as after 74 minutes Diamanti’s curving free-kick from 20 yards was parried by Mannone to Cole on the edge of the Arsenal six-yard box. The West Ham striker easily headed home to give his side hope. Score sheet 2-1 to Arsenal.
Misery for Arsenal as West Ham are awarded a penalty after Cole was brought down carelessly by Song. Diamanti converts the penalty for an unexpected equaliser for West Ham. All square at 2-2.
West Ham were down to 10 men after 85 minutes played when Parker received a second yellow after a foul on Fabregas.
Both teams fought to grab the winner, putting everything forward. However, the referee blew the whistle to end the match at two a piece. Full match report here.
Disappointing draw for Arsenal. Deja vu anyone? After controlling the majority of the match and with a 2 goal advantage and only getting one point, I am sure Arsene Wenger has a lot to say to the boys! :S

emma,HAPPY BIRTHDAY . . .
(how old are you? 17?)
ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
thats all i have to say on the matter.
quite right, but a really good article on the match, I saw it the same way
i am still nursing my frustration.
after all today is my birthday……
i expect goal feast n full 3 points as present.
I actually woke up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the match. Guess they didn’t learn,
not even from Man Sh*tty which only minutes earlier also lost their 2-goal lead to draw against
Fulham. Yes, we’re in third but we could’ve closed the gap with Chelsh*t. I’m sure the lads
knew this; what I don’t understand is why they didn’t work to ensure that. Whatever happened
to our free-scoring days? Cesc and Arshavin put on disappointing performance, maybe I
expected too much from them but surely, we fans can have expectations too? I’m so gutted.
We could not finish them off. I am totally frustrated. We controlled the game but in ten min. we
concede really silly goals. At the end it will cost us. I am very dissappointed.
I’m angry, desepcionada truth, we have gone twice this week I can not bother me at Arsenal today desepcionaron
sad….we lost points ….twice within this week….
with spur n man u losing n man city n villa draw…we are in good position to get full points n go up the table.
anyway we still scoring more than others but coceded alot at the same time.
is it possible manny will have better chance against penalty as compare to manone?
