Arsenal 6-2 Blackburn Rovers

4 October 2009

thierryToday’s game was a goal fest! This was Arsene’s first game since becoming Arsenal’s longest serving manager and Thierry Henry was at the Emirates to watch the match! This was his first time visiting the Emirates since he left to join Barcelona, and he got a huge round of applause before the game. XD

Arsenal got off to a slow start, with Blackburn rovers taking the lead in the fourth minute. Fabregas and Arshavin came close to equalising, but the chance to level the scoreline fell to Vermaleen who scored in the 17th minute from twenty yards out. Cesc again came close to scoring twice, but Robinson saved the shots.Blackburn Rovers went ahead once again when Dunn scored with a deflection off Gallas. Soon after,Cesc slipped a pass to Van persie who shot the ball low into the goal, to once again level the scoreline. Five minutes later, Arsenal took the lead, with Cesc assisting once again, and Arshavin getting his name on the scoresheet. Before half time, Cesc had another chance to score, but Robinson once again produced a good save.

The second half also saw a lot of chances produced. Cesc finally managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the 57th minute, producing a fine volley.During his celebration he kissed his badge, and after the game he said it was to show his commitment to the club after all this speculation.Song also came close to scoring a header, but was again blocked out by Robinson. In the 75th minute, Arsenal scored their fifth goal. Walcott produced a great shot, with Cesc making his third assist of the afternoon. The end of the match saw another goal from Arsenal, with Bendtner scoring from outside the box, to finish the scoreline at 6-2. Full match report here.

A brilliant performance today by the team. The football was breathtaking to watch. Although Arsenal’s vunerablilty in defence was evident, I thought the players put their all into the game. Well done to them. :) And Cesc was immense today. He was everywhere. Four assists and one goal. :) A good game for him.
I have added some pictures of Cesc at the match in the latest photos section. We have also added some pictures of Cesc at Bouji’s( a club). He went there after the mid-week game.

edit: I have found the interview that Cesc did with Sky sports after the game, but only in word form. If I find the video, I will put it up.

The interviewer asked Cesc whether he kissed the badge to show his commitment and love to the club. Cesc said:

“Yes, because there is always some speculation that I don’t like to hear.I am committed to this club 100 per cent, it is my seventh season here.It is hard to hear people saying I am not committed enough or something. It was a good time to show I love this club.

On the game he said: “We did not do well in the first 10 to 15 minutes and were a bit shaky defensively. But after the goal we did well and it was a good game.”

He was then asked about his own performance, and he said:

“I am happy with all the team’s performance. We can do better – it is just one more game in the race for the title.”

Hey hey! So Cesc has his new Nike boots which are designed for one touch football and all that, don’t know if you’ve seen/heard. He did it for Nike with Barcelona much to much amusement, but I personally don’t think anything of it.

So anyway, here’s Cesc talking about having total control and how it affects his game. Oh his passes and control is just. mind-blowing. I wish I could see how he sees things happening when he plays, but I guess this is the closest we can get! Here’s the link!

I LOVED THE GAME!! Cesc was amazing and the rest of the team pretty much follow the leader and killed Blackburn. HAHA FAT SAM!! Love seeing Henry back and I’m happy the team was great for Le Boss. Cesc kissing the badge was great and soooo not chessy. I’m glad he did it now let’s hope that these stupid rumors stop and media just let the man play football for The Gunners like he should

  7. Tuty says:

I wasn’t impressed when we conceded two goals so early but was very happy with the response from the Gunners. I think they wanted to prove it to Wenger (and a gift for his 13th year anniversary at
Arsenal), to Titi, and to themselves. Cesc was Captain Marvel/Captain Fantastic! I love his
gestures to the fans. Very classy indeed!

Oh and Daniel, I got the jersey :)

    Great ! Cesc I Love You (L)

Here are wenger’s post match comments which were on the arsenal website:

    On Cesc Fabregas’ performance

“I felt he had already given a good performance on Tuesday night too. He started a little less sharp physically but in the last two or three games he has become stronger and stronger. We know that in every game he creates chances. What is important for him – what he misses – is to score goals and today he scored as well so that’s a relief for him certainly. I have seen him play a few good games. When we go forward as a whole team we always look like we could score and when you look he is always in the middle of it, at the start or at the end. A team goes always naturally through its strong points, the way of the game. So it goes, therefore, through Fabregas.”

On people who say Cesc wants to leave

“The best answer is to play well on the football pitch and to show that you are happy to be where you are. The best way to show that you are happy is to be happy to play football with your partners. And with this team there is something in the side that is light-hearted and enjoyable to watch. Why? Because you feel they enjoy what they do and they enjoy to play together. That is, for me, the most important thing.”

On Thierry Henry watching from the stands

“Thierry inspired today our goalscoring because they wanted certainly to show Thierry they can score goals and they are good followers of him. It is good to see him back here although I believe he belongs more to Highbury than to Emirates because certainly, coming back to Highbury, would have more memories than here but we are happy to have him with us. He would have scored today certainly.”

    On the fifth goal

“It was a fantastic goal. When we are confident we have a flow that looks like the goals could come at any moment from anywhere. There are some strengths coming out of this ,bteam and we have to add some discipline defensively because we struggled a little bit defensively today. We looked always like we know we will score goals.”

On being strong going forward and in defence

“It’s difficult to have so many people going forward and to have everybody straight away defending well. It’s a consequence of our philosophy a little bit.”

    On the Premier League table

“We are in a strong position. Despite the fact that we have lost two games, if you look at the away games we had they are in places where other teams can drop points. We have four away games to Manchester [United and City], Everton and Fulham. We got six points but we had the impression we should have won the two games in Manchester and that made out resolve even stronger.”

On the number of shots on target Arsenal had

“Today we scored six and their keeper had a great game.”

On Manchester United’s picking up late points

“I think that it’s not only a look at Man United because we have also Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City maybe.”

I meant first time at the emirates since he moved to barcelona. I’ll edit it so that it makes sense. Thanks for pointing out the mistake.

  11. NoiZe says:

First time at the Emirates? noo… he played there for a year.. and Its Emirates ;) not Emrites..
You can call it Ashburton Grove stadium too

  12. Hannah says:

Cesc really deserved the Man Of The Match award because he played fantastically! I’m so glad to see him back on top form…his efforts and commitment to Arsenal are so emotional. They truly deserved the win today and I’m very proud.

  13. Rumm says:

    Thanks Plu!!

Match was. It took my breath away. So amazing! I think we did respond well to their goals, the boys attacked and our forward players really had a good time I think.

They were interchanging their positions freely, they moved amazingly.

Of course, I think Cesc was bloody out of this world today. Seriously. 4 assists and 1 goal in 1 match? Wow.

  14. Deena says:

  15. Zicha says:

Great Great Great match!!! It was great to see Theo back and even better to see him score :)

I’m not sure about Cesc’s badge kissing though, i’ve always found that a little bit cheesy…..but i understand why he did it. I loved that he pointed to the fans as if to say ‘this is for you’

  16. Rukhsana says:

    Thanks Plu!

Absolutely loved today’s match. The boys played great and Cesc was amazing, as per usual. Great team effort, with 6 different players bagging goals. Even Bendtner managed to score (lol).

I love Thierry Henry. Aww he still looks great and loved that he came to watch them play. Gotta say why is Patrick Viera watching the Chelsea v Liverpool game. Weird!

Congratualtions to Arsene Wenger for the glorious 13 years and to Arsenal for the superb win!
