Cesc: Arsene is a God here

Cesc had an interview with the Sun. It’s slightly long, but a nice one to read. :)

First off, Cesc spoke about how Wenger was never fully happy with performances, and how he will try to keep players grounded.

“The boss will never be 100 per cent happy with what you do. If he sees that you are thinking you have reached the top level, he will show you a video and say how you should have done something differently. He goes one by one through all the players after a team meeting about what he expects of each of us.

Cesc went on to acknowledge his weaknesses on the pitch.

“I know I need to be better defensively and that I still have a lot to learn and to give defensively. It’s one of the points I need to be stronger on to be a complete midfielder. I have to work with the final pass as well and give more support to my team-mates.

The interview then turned back to Wenger again:

“Arsene has always been really good to me but he can still be annoyed with me. I don’t expect that because he brought me here when I was 16 he won’t tell me I’m doing things wrong. I want him to do that because I want to be a better player. He loves football and watches it all the time and he sees things you didn’t see yourself. Arsene is, without doubt, the best coach Arsenal has ever had and we are very happy he is our manager.

“The longer he’s at Arsenal the better it will be. He’s a God here, a God. The chairman and everyone can be relaxed because they know he will always be positive for the club.”

Cesc went on to speak about being given the captaincy:

“It was very special the day the manager came to me and said he thought of me as captain of Arsenal. I spent more than 10 minutes talking to him and it was like a father and his son. I felt really privileged and will always remember that moment. And of course I said ‘yes’.

Cesc then spoke about his belief in the current Arsenal side, whilst stating that they would take every game as it comes.

“I have the same faith in this team that Arsene Wenger has – definitely. I train with them every day, I live with them every day and you can see the quality. We believe we can do it. You see things you don’t see very often, there are some special talents here. If you don’t believe, why play football? We play to win. We believe we can achieve things. We are working hard and we believe we can do it. But I don’t want to talk about trophies and say this year we will win something. We just want to focus on each game and if we do that we will have a chance.

“The team can be better, the players are one year older, and we are playing tough teams. But we are learning all the time.”

On the topic of Xavi’s comments about wanting Cesc to play at Barcelona, Cesc said:

It doesn’t upset me what Xavi says, not at all. It is very flattering from a great player like Xavi. But I am the captain of Arsenal and I have a job to do here. Everyone has their own life and you do what you feel is better for you. Being at Arsenal is the best thing for me at the moment. I want to win things here and I’m very comfortable with Arsenal.

“I love London, it’s a great city, it’s like my house, it’s really good. It is very important for a player to feel at home and I feel like that

I really liked this interview. Once in a while, you get those interviews which increases your respect for a player, and this is one of those imo. And yes, London is a great city. ^^ Wenger- I’m so glad he manages Arsenal. I really couldn’t imagine him elsewhere or Arsenal without him.

UPDATE: I have put up some pictures of Cesc when he celebrated the champions league win on 29/9/2009 at Boujis nightclub in London in the latest photos section.

  • What an adorable interview !!! when i first read it on the Sun , i just couldnt stop smiling , so classy and definitely increased my respect for him , even more !! such a great player , love him so much .
I cant imagine Arsenal without Arsene too , last season when some fans asked or Arsene’s exit i was just saying ” are you kidding me ?? ”
Pat Rice gave statements lately said that he refused to coach Ireland twice ’cause he enjoys working with Arsene . A board-man also came out – cant remember his name – and said that Arsene contributed in the designing of the Emirates stadium , the pitch , the underground heating and he also plays a big role in the players diet !! just amazing :D he watches evrything carefully and closely . :D
I read that the players held a private party yesterday at the Emirates to celebrate Arsene Wenger being the longest serving coach in Arsenal :D sweet .
Cesc Fabregas went celebrating at Boujis after Arsenal’s win over olympiakos , none of his team mates accompanied him . hmmmmm , still wondering what he was doing there all by himself ;) :) :D

    Go Gunners <3
