Champions League Play-Off 2nd Leg – Arsenal 3 Celtic 1 (5-1)
26 August 2009Arsenal were home today to Celtic in the second leg of the Champions League Play-off. Arsenal had the upper-hand with a 2-0 aggregate score from the first leg.
Celtic started the game fairly attack-minded with some early charges. Arsenal too came through with a few advance plays of their own. Things seemed pretty evenly spread until the referee awarded a penalty to Arsenal after 26 minutes played. Eduardo converted the penalty into a goal. Arsenal led 3-0 on aggregate.
Arsenal made some slick passing moves down the left flank before Diaby tees up Eboue in the centre to slot home. This was Eboue’s first European goal! Arsenal took their lead to 4-0 on aggregate.
After coming on as substitutes, Arshavin plays a one-two with Ramsey to the right of the box before turning and slotting home. Arshavin’s first goal of the season, bringing Arsenal 5-0 up.
Celtic came up with a late consolation prize, if that when Donati volleyed home a great goal from Hinkel’s cross. That left the mathc 3-1, and 5-1 on aggregate. Full match report here.
So Arsenal go through to the group stages! Congrats to them, although personally I do not want to go through more play-offs in the future

Yes!!Through to the group stages
.But the whole match was kind of marred by Eduardo’s dive in the first half. :9I know every player does it nowadays but I just don’t want Arsenal players to become cheats. Games can be won fairly. Not that I’m saying we wouldn’t have won if Eduardo hadn’t dived. No doubt we were better than Celtic over the two legs, but nevertheless, I don’t see the need to dive. And I was really surprised that of all people eduardo did it.
The last two goals were brilliant. Such slick passing!

Hey Mila.
I think Arsenal did play well yesterday but I have seen them play better. Eboue and Song were really good and Eboue definately deserved the goal.
Cesc was at the match, he was sitting behind the subs and Wenger, with the rest of injured ppl like Carlos Vela and others.
I am trying to find pictures but no luck so far!.
Gunners WIN & they’re thru to the Group Stage!! Woo-hoo!!
i’m so happy for the boys & Wenger.. i must say the performance for the match wasnt that bad; it was good!! (watch the highlights on youtube cuz my side didnt broadcast the match)
eboue, song was extremely good!! eduardo could have netted several goals but luck wasnt on his side i guess..
overall; the performance for the last night match was exceptionally good!! hehe.. just wondering; was Cesc in the stands??
