Season Opener: Arsenal 6 Everton 1
FINALLY! The football season begins! Arsenal were away to Everton today for the first day of the premier league season.
Both teams took a while to settle down, but it seems Arsenal were quicker to find their natural passing game. The first goal came when Cesc teed up Denilson who hit a stunning shot from outside the penalty area that nestled in the top right corner of the Everton goal. Something quite special.
Arsenal escaped a quick equaliser when Fellani’s header was cleared off the line by Denilson. A second goal was soon added to the score card when Van Persie delivered from deep and Vermaelen sneeked in behind the defence to score a thumping header in his league debut.
A thrid goal was added after Cesc delivered a free-kick from the left and this time Gallas rised high and unmarked to head past Howard from five yards out. This was all just in the first half!
The second half started with a bang. After just a couple of minutes Cesc scored Arsenal’s fourth comfortably after a Van Persie assist. Cesc came back for a fifth as Almunia’s goal-kick eventually led him straight through the Everton midfield before shooting low into the left corner of goal. Cesc celebrated by holding up an Arsenal shirt with ‘Jarque’ on the back to dedicate the goal to the former Espanyol captain who died recently.
After the fifth, there were a number of changes for both sides. Everton had a couple of shots on goal but all of them reached the hands of Almunia safely. Eduardo finished off Arsenal’s scoring with a gentle sidefoot.
Everton found a late consolation prize as Saha scored in the 92nd minute. Soon after the final whistle was blown. Arsenal open the season with a bang! Full match report here.
I have added some photos of Cesc during the match, which can be viewed in the latest photos section Apologies for the watermarks.
Congratualtions to Arsenal and Cesc for the two goals!!!!
Did everyone manage to catch the game? What did you think of the team performance and of course Cesc?

In Bulgaruia students marks in school are not A, B, C, D… they are from 1 to 6. So we say- Arsenal wrote an “Excellent 6″ to Everton
I’m very happy for Gallas, Veermalen and Eduardo

Yep totally agree. Loved the match. I though Arsenal played really well. I was quite worried in the beginning but I am glad they got thier usual passing rhythm going.
Hahaha about the Almunia assist. lol. Loved Denilson’s goal, seeing as he usually blasts way over the top. And Cesc’s goals were great. And Eduardo scored too. He really need to stop the sliding goal celebrations. I cringe everytime, he looks so fragile.
Everton really were poor. I felt quite sorry for them.
I think we need a new prediction poll Plu!!!!

Brillaint start to the season!!!And great for cesc too. Two assists and two goals. And what a goal his second one was. And an assist from Almunia too. ^^ And it was nice of Cesc to tribute his goals to Jarque. And Denilson;s goal was also superb.
Everton were pretty poor, but Arsenal did play very well. Nice slick passes. There are still obviously some things that Arsenal need to work on but I think we can do better this season than we did last.
