Cesc's statement
Cesc has responded to the latest rumours about him leaving Arsenal this summer, following on from his comments about Arsenal’s “impotence” in delivering trophies over the past four years.
This is the statement that was issued on Arsenal.com
“I’m not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.
“So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great Club.
“It is a fact that we have not won a trophy for four years and yes, I am angry about that, but that anger stems from the deep deep desire I have to win things with Arsenal. I care about this Club and believe in this team. I am proud to captain this team and proud to wear the shirt.
It really upsets me when people express my thoughts otherwise. The spirit in this squad is fantastic and we have the ability and mentality to compete on all fronts for silverware. Make no mistake, we are focussed and determined to show that we are capable of achieving great things together.”
Ok, I know a few people were upset about his comments but I seriously think they were taken out of context. He is staying at Arsenal and until he actually says the words “I am leaving,” all is well!!! As a huge Arsenal fan, I understand his anger about the lack of trophies but I think all this frustration needs to be transferred onto the pitch!
I have added 9 new photos of Cesc during the Spain v USA match in the latest photos section and here is a short clip of Cesc’s post match comments:
Cesc talks about Arsenal and the future
Cesc has apparently stated his anger at the lack of silverware at Arsenal in the last four years and such a lack of success affects team spirit. Source
“The absence of titles at Arsenal is what angers me the most.Cristiano said he’s leaving Manchester United because he had nothing else to win. For me right now it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence.”
“This year we wanted it, we were giving everything – but we couldn’t reach the level that everyone expected of Arsenal.
When you win, you’re well. But when you don’t, everyone is in a bad mood. For four years now, we’ve needed a title to regain our belief in ourselves.
My seventh season is about to start. It’s a lot when you’re just 22. When you stop to think, you see that time flies. In football, you have to learn fast and take the best decisions for yourself and try to be happy.”
He states that the fact that he was from Barcelona would not rule out a move to Real Madrid in the future. “Of course my family would understand if I signed for Real Madrid because they love me, they want me to be happy and what is best for me. They’d support me – whichever club I joined. My family will always be there for me – whatever decision I make.”
Cesc also said that he would find it difficult to choose between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“At the moment it’s not happened so I don’t have to choose. For any player it gives great pride that those two clubs come to sign him. It would be a difficult choice.”
Cesc did not actually say he wants to leave. However, on the matter of leaving he said that he would not try to force the club to sell him by publicly declaring that he wanted to leave:
“I will never do that. It’s not the way I am.If I have to say I want to leave I will do it face to face.If one day I’m not happy, I am the first who will tell the manager.I admire Arsene Wenger but each of us has his own life and looks after his own interests.”
He also spoke about his previous comments about the Spanish National team having a better atmosphere about it than the Arsenal team
“It’s difficult. What is clear is that, if you’re at a club that doesn’t win anything, the fans want to see new faces. They want to have hope.
“I am well in England. What happens is that every player likes to win and at Arsenal we’ve won nothing for the last four years.
“It’s difficult to explain how good the camaraderie is in the Spain team.
“I am now at Arsenal, where there isn’t this social group which is so human, so friendly, a group of normal people like my friends and we don’t talk about things too much.”
OK, so articles like this are always confusing but I would like to reiterate that he did not state anywhere in the interview that he wants to leave Arsenal. He is just frustrated with the lack of trophies, as are all Arsenal fans!! What do you guys feel?

crazygal_miLa, I just want to mention two facts:
It is not Wenger who made Cesc a super star. He made it himself. an Arsenal fan, you should be grateful that Wenger brought him in, not that Wenger brought him up.
If you have watched Cesc playing in his youth, you would know he’s got everything needed to succeed by the time he arrived at Arsenal. If you have not, search youtube yourself. Had he not been brought by Wenger at a young age, other top European teams would have fought for him before he was 19.
Second, your history of following football is obviously quite short. Gerrad wanted to leave Liverpool 5 years ago, that was why he was stripped off the captaincy for one season.

Everyone, hold your horses! The source is The Sun tabloid anyway, which is exactly that, a tabloid. The interview was in Spanish and pounced upon by the English media which misinterpreted whatever he said anyway. He’s cleared the air on the club website http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/fabregas-responds-to-media-speculation
And frankly, I think as a captain, he has the right to be unhappy with the drought of trophies. It means he gives a damn about the club. If he doesn’t care about the drought and isn’t worried about not worried, then I’d be very worried! Check out the sensible take on the interview here:

without him in Arsenal; my life will be dull!! (nah; just joking!! hehe..)

yeah I thought this was crap and it was. Cesc has always said great things about the Arsenal lockeroom so this sound kind of crazy. But really I think Cesc really should maybe not talk to much to some of the media. You know it was be twisted, I know he has to talk sometimes but just try to be careful Cesc. Players have to learn the media is not your friend. They could care less about Cesc or Arsenal. They just want a story.

It’s ok Mila. You don’t need to apologise for any comments you made. You have every right to say what you want. We won’t stop you or criticise you for them. This site being a fabregas fansite does not mean that we are going to constantly praise Cesc no matter what.I’m hoping that this site is more of an unbiased fan site in that we don’t overly criticise or overly praise but just see things/try to see things as they are….if that makes any sense.
I agree with some of your comments. He shouldn’t, I think, as captain, be saying this sort of stuff to the media. Whilst I do believe, like Rukhsana, that the media have taken things out of context and twisted the quotes to suit their own needs, Cesc must also be aware of the fact that the media do that. God knows it has happened enough, so he should really be more careful with what he says to the media. However, he does have every right to hold the views that he does, and if you read the comments again they are actually not what the media made them out to be.
About your second point, Cesc did not say that he was not grateful. He said that he admired Arsene but that at the end of the day he was going to look after his own needs. And to be honest, that his fair enough. Most people nowadays have to look after themselves and do what is best for them. Your loyalties shouldn’t be preventing you from pursuing what you think is best and your own dreams/goals, in my opinion. I don’t want Cesc to stay at Arsenal, if he isn’t happy, because he feels like he owes it to Wenger. I want him to stay at Arsenal because he wants to and is happy to play at the club and wants to win things for Arsenal. What is the point of haivng a player at the club who does not really want to be there and is just staying because of the manager? And whilst I do agree that Wenger helped Cesc to be the footballer he is today, part of it was also down to Cesc and his talent, so credit should be given to him. And who knows what would have happened if Cesc had stayed at Barcelona. Maybe he would have broken into the first team and been given a chance, so we can’t really say that Cesc would have been a nobody without Wenger. But yes, Wenger has helped morph him into the player he is today.
Your third point- Cesc did not say that he was going to leave Arsenal for any other team in those comments.During the interview, Cesc would have prompted with questions. The media haven’t displayed the questions in their news but just his answers. So whilst he may have been talking about Barcelona and Real Madrid right after his comments about Arsenal, that was probably because he was asked a question about the two teams.
About the being angry about the lack of trophey’s comment- Cesc did also say this:
Cristiano said he’s leaving Manchester United because he had nothing else to win. For me right now it is the exact opposite, seeing the impotence.. I viewed that as meaning that Cesc wants to stay at Arsenal to win tropheys, and that this anger due to the lack of tropheys spurs him on/motivates him to want to win. It’s normal for people to be angry at not winning trophey’s, as no doubt a lot of the Arsenal fans are, but he probably is angry at himself too for the lack of trophey’s as he has played a part in this team. What I’m trying to say here is that Cesc’s comments can be interpreted differently. The media made that comment seem as though Cesc was basically bashing the club, but if you read the quote in a different way then you could just see it as being about Cesc’s emotions and his motivation and nothing whatsoever to do with bashing the club.
And also, I would hope he is angry at the lack of tropheys. Being happy or content about it isn’t good is it? Anger is great for motivation so to me him being angry about not winning is good. It shows he is thinking right. On the other hand, cesc saying he is happy not winning things would show no motivation whatsoever and would not really be reassuring.
It’s always difficult because the media make it seem as though a person is trying to imply something about a club, when in actual fact their comments are not trying to imply that.
About my own thoughts on the comments. The comments seemed much worse to me when I first read them but then when I looked over them again and ignored what the media said and tried to see for myself what Cesc was atually saying, the comments weren’t actually that bad.And they certainly were not what the media seemed to make them to mean. His thoughts and opinions were fine. He wasn’t bashing the club or implying that he wanted to leave, which is what the media effectively have implied.
One thing I did not like was his comments about Real Madrid and Barcelona. I personally don’t think that a player should talk about the possibility of choosing between two clubs which aren’t your own. But then that is my own biased thought. Partially because Cesc has constantly said that he is happy at being at Arsenal, but by talking about other clubs he is confusing a lot of people and making them think he does want to leave, and also opening the way for he media to spin his quotes and speculate about transfers.
Now that Ronaldo has left to Real Madrid, Cesc is probably the next most newsworthy footballer to write about transfer wise. The media love to take any of his quotes and imply things that he did not say.So he really should be more careful about what he says to the media. They are bound to spin it somewhat just to sell newspapers etc.

yes it’s a lie the journalists always do this especially Marca, El Mundo etc. I think Cesc will refute and respond to these kind of news again and again during the summer because the newspapers always twist the players’s statements. he will tell it several times that he will stay at arsenal .
and don’t worry as On3wAy said:)
by the way he wouldnt speak like that about arsenal (in my opinion)

ok , i dont know why u r mad with cesc , he is just being frank and honest with the media and the fans and most of all with himself , he said nothing wrong , we didnt win anything for 4 years and i am upset about that but i’m gonna work harder with the team to achieve things , NO BIG DEAL !
the guy himself cant remember how many times he pledged his future to arsenal , i am afriad one day he may leave because of the rumours , seriously …
he said that the atmoshere is better in the spaish squad than arsenal – although in many times i didnt feel so – , well that’s probably because they r all spanish , have been playing together for years and years , he said nothing wrong , or should we blame him for saying the truth ,
and he didnt say arsenal sucks , he said no silveware for 4 yeras but i will try to change that .
overall , i dont think cesc called for a press conference to make these statements , nobody knows what was the question he was asked to say that he cant rule out a move to real madrid !!
cesc is very honest and direct and we all know that once he wants to leave , he will say that and make clear statements , telling arsenal board and arsene himself , so until then i wont pay attention to these nonsense quotes …
i watched the game and the usa did nothing but defending so well during the whole game , had only 2 chances and scored 2 goals , while the spanish team had MANY chances and scored none !!!!!!!!!!!!! unbelieveable , and torres played really really really bad , and he was selfish too in many occasions , i barely felt he was there and villa too .:(
didnt see that coming ,i think cesc played ok , especially in the few moments before he was subbed , he also had a few good shots i wish he had scored
thanks kate , plu and fati for ur nice comments egypt did ok but didnt deserve to have a spot in the semi finals to be honest …
anyway , i agree with kate , i would choose van persie to be arsenal player of the season , nasri wasnt in the needed form all the time , and almunia didnt convince me , sagna was ok , but his last season was the best for him , i think clichy can have it too he wasnt bad at all …
now i wish that del bosque never smiled in the trainings … they may have won
go gunners

i’m kinda dissapointed at him because after all the work he put in to make sure people realized he was commited to Arsenal he goes and just slams this into our face by politelly saying that Arsenal sucks…well if he was going to move then move over to the club who said they wouldn’t take him back for leaving them. Let’s see where he ends up with that kind of faith and trust.

okie!! this is the last straw for me!! sorry if my words offended all of Cesc fans & pardon me for my long comment..
firstly; why is Cesc talking to the media & sort of complained abt his frustrations of lack of trophies in Arsenal?? is this what a captain should be saying?? remember what happen to Gallas?? do Cesc wants the same thing to happen to him; stripping off the captaincy after a few months of taking it up?? Gosh Cesc!! please dont make me (and the other fans) worry about your future in Arsenal!!
secondly; Cesc wouldnt be who he is today if Wenger didnt bring him over from Barcelona.. without Wenger; we wouldnt know who is Cesc Fabregas!! so please, be grateful to the person who brought you over & made u a superstar today – Arsene Wenger!! once again, without Wenger; Cesc is a NOBODY!!
thirdly; alot of teams have not been winning trophies for a long period of time, for eg. Liverpool, Chelsea, etc.. but; do we hear any of their star players who wanna abandon the team & move on to another better team who has a higher chance of winning a trophy?? NO!! none of the star players said that.. in fact; they work harder to achieve their goal for themselves & the club!! so Cesc; if he wanna win trophies, he should work together with the team & strike for victory & not babbling about the unhappiness!!
lastly; i hope someone (be a stranger or an angel) will knock some sense into Cesc.. i really dont wish to see his career going downwards if he were to leave Arsenal; in another words, be a benchwarmer in another club..
** sorry if i wrote some harsh words but this is how i feel **
