Cesc talks about Spain
17 June 2009
Fifa.com interviewed Cesc after the win against New Zealand.
We played really well. It’s always important to start with a win and that’s just what we did. But we realise that this is just the beginning and that there’s a long way to go in the Confederations Cup.”
Cesc went on to speak about the next match agaisnt Iraq. If they win the match then they will go through to the semi-finals. However, Cesc isn’t taking anything for granted.
“We know we’re favourites but we’ve got to be wary going into these matches. We saw the game between South Africa and Iraq before travelling to the stadium and we’re going to analyse the video. We’ll be taking the remaining matches extremely seriously”
“There’s still a long way to go. It’s true that our first game was easier than we thought, but it’s a long tournament, and there are some excellent teams to come. We’re very confident but we have to remain composed.”
Cesc goes on to speak about becoming a regular for the Spanish team
“It’s not as though I wasn’t a regular before this tournament. I came on as a substitute in many games and played 30 minutes or more, so in total I played for longer than a lot of the players who started. I’ve always felt like a regular on the team, and I think I’ve played my part in our success.”
However, he did admit that it was special to be in the starting line up
“Naturally ever player wants to start games, but there are fantastic players in this team, all of whom are good enough to be out on the pitch. That’s why breaking into the starting eleven is no easy task.”
“I played well, as did the whole team. It was a great way to set the ball rolling, and I hope that from here we can improve with every game.”
Cesc reaffirms his commitment to Arsenal

Cesc also spoke about the comments that have been circulating about him joining Barcelona if Pep asked him to. He told Marca that he did not make those comments.
“You have to be careful not to fall into this kind of trap.I never said it[the comments]
It would mean a tremendous amount to me because Guardiola has been my idol forever. To whom wouldn’t it be a dream? Him calling me would mean a lot.
Right now my future is in the same situation. Arsenal have already said that I am not transferable, which fills me with pride.
If some day I left Arsenal, I wouldn’t stay in England. As a Spaniard, everyone knows that I would like to play in the Spanish league. In England there are four teams who are superior to the rest and in Spain it is more equal.”
I expected that those comments had been somewhat twisted or made up by the newspapers. He’s constantly committed himself to Arsenal next season, yet the newspapers never stop.
Several newspapers are also saying that Cesc picked up an injury in training yesterday after a tackle from Alonso. I’m assuming he is ok now, seeing as he is on the subs bench for the game now.

One way-Yeah. I heard about that from some newspapers. They say it was visibly angry about the tackle, but I’m sure it was just an accident.
