Confederates Cup: Spain 5 New Zealand 0
Spain made their debut in the Confederates Cup this evening, by taking on New Zealand in South Africa.
Cesc Fabregas was in the starting line-up (as much expected) and was joined by a very strong Spainish side, which proved too much for the same New Zealand side that managed to score three goals against current World Cup holders Italy.
Much of the action took place in the first half, with a Fernando Torres hat-trick within just 17 minutes of the game. Liverpool and Spain’s number nine exhibited his talent by curling in a fantastic shot from the edge of the box, then sidefooting another from six yards and also displayed his variety by powerfully headed in his third.
Spain continued to show thier slick passing movements and ability as Capdevila’s cross set-up Cesc Fabregas to score Spain’s fourth. (YES CESC SCORED
). The fifth and final goal came during the second half when David Villa benefitied from a terrible mistake by a New Zealand defender.
Spain experienced a fair amount of possession and had many chances, Cesc had a couple himself. The only notable New Zealand effort was saved comfortably by Casillas.
Overall, a very comfortable win for Spain, meaning that they are 33 games without defeat and an impressive 13th succesive win. Spain seemed very comfortable on the ball, both offensively and defensively. New Zealand however, will most likely want to forget this night and hope to gain points from their other games. Full match report here.
Congratulations to Cesc (for the goal and generally being awesome) and the entire Spainish team for an excellent performance.
I have added 18 new photos of Cesc during Spain’s match against New Zealand in the latest photos section
For those of you who haven’t watched the match, or want to watch the highlights again, then you can view a five minute highlight here.

Sorry about that Nat. I have no idea why it wasn’t working. I’ve fixed the link now.
And yeah. The newspapers will never stop. It’ll probably get worse now that the newspapers don’t have any more transfer speculation over ronaldo.

Thanks Rukhsana.
i managed to see the game yesterday..what an awsome game n the Spaniards looked like they enjoying themselves.
As for the New Zealanders…i dont think they mind losing to such a good team..most probably they were still dreaming of playing with the like of Tores,Villa,Cesc,Xavi n so on…..world class players n no 1 team.
Mila….
if i not mistaken…you are from Spore?yes?
try to watch Malaysian Astrosupersport channel 118….they are showing every single game including repeats.good luck.

Well done Cesc
and Spain…
They are such a good team, i think there is a good chance they could win the world cup in 2010 if they carry on with there current form.
And i agree, Cesc’s hair isn’t that bad…he still looks gorgeous whatever hair style he has
Good luck to Cesc in Spain’s next match (is it wednesday?)

I’m happy to hear that they played so well, and Cesc too. Yay for him getting a goal
I really cannot wait for exams to be over so that I can watch the spain matches again. Thank god for sky+ to catch up.
Fati. That goal was his third national goal. He scored a penalty in the euros as well.Or do they not count penalties as goals?
Lol. The sentence seems right. I don’t know spanish either.

Hey Emma! Sorry to hear about the heavy rainfall and missing the match. Im sure the match is online somewhere, if not I am sure the highlights are on youtube!
Hey crazygal_mila! I read that article and didnt post about it as it is just repetition. Basically Cesc just stated that Pep Guardiola is his idol and the thought of playing for him was not unpleasant. He is still committed to Arsenal FULLY and NO ONE has approached him. He wants trophies with Arsenal!
Hey Somi! IM HAPPY TOO!!!! Yes watching Cesc play was fantastic! He looked really happy as well. Yep, I agree as well. Cesc’s hair is not so bad after getting used to it. I still dont like it but its not terrible. I can think of alot worser ones. lol

Congrats to Cesc & Spain for winning their first Confederation Cup match against New Zealand..
I didnt get to watch the match as they dont telecast it in my country..
Anyway; feel happy for Cesc cuz he scored another international goal for Spain..
But; i read news that Cesc might leave Arsenal if Pep Guardiola talks to him & maybe persuade him to join Barca.. hopefully this aint true.. cuz few days ago; Cesc committed himself to Arsenal & now; he’s saying another story.. please tell me that the media are making this up!!

Thanks! Yes I mean I think the Bulgarian media said that because Cesc and the other Spainish midfielders had so much room to play with the ball. I was watching the match and Spain virtually had the entire pitch to play with, there were hardly any tackles.
Cesc played really well. I mean he missed a few chances but thats okay. But overall his passing and being able to pick out people and getting into spaces was top-draw. I love watching Spain play, its quite similar to when Arsenal are able to play free-flowing football.

Nice job
I hope that they will win the Confederates Cup and i hope that Cesc will score more goals. The media reports in Bulgaria are saying that Cesc was doing whatever he wants in the midfeild
I missed the mach but I was sure that Cesc played a great mach.
