Cesc: we must look at improvements
8 May 2009
In the Matchday programme for the game against Chelsea, Cesc spoke about having to look ta why they are not getting into the finals of tournaments.
“We have to look at where we can improve, and make sure we do that for next season. We haven’t been in any Finals and perhaps that’s because of something. We’ve gone 21 games without losing in the league, so we know we are good, but when we’ve played in the Semi-Finals of the FA Cup and Champions League we haven’t been at the level everyone expected us to reach.
“Maybe that means something, and sometimes you need to be honest with yourself – our opponents were stronger than us in both of those ties and you just have to go from there, try to see where you made mistakes and try to put them right.
Cesc also spoke about the fans and how they feel dispapointed with the lack of tropheys.
“While we’re always positive, we know it’s difficult to keep everyone happy at this moment because it’s the fourth consecutive season in which we haven’t won anything. It’s frustrating for the fans, who are used to winning things, to see other teams going into Finals when we haven’t really managed that.
“We are disappointed because we know how much effort they put in – the way that, even in the financial crisis, they’re still coming to the stadium, buying tickets and season tickets, and we appreciate that a lot. It’s a shame, and we feel very responsible for not making them happy, for not taking them back to Wembley or to Rome.”
Arsenal 1-4 Chelsea

This week has not been a good one for Arsenal. Chelsea beat Arsenal 4-1 which means that Arsenal will be placed fourth in th table. Thus, next season, they will have to qualify to play in the Champions League, due to a change in the rules of the tournament. The goals for Chelsea came from Alex, Anelka and Malouda. Toure scored an own goal, and Bendtner scored as well. Full match report here.
I have added two pictures of Cesc at the match in the latest photos section.
Cesc:Football owes Wenger a Champions League
Cesc believes that it would be “unjust” if Arsene did not win the Champions League.
“Football owes Wenger a Champions League. The manager has always insisted on the team playing attractive football and he deserves a reward for that. The history of football would be unjust if Arsene never gets his hands on the trophy that we have been so close to getting.
“We always take risks and play an open style of football and you have to take into consideration the weapons that the other big teams have compared to ours.
And once again, Cesc commits himself to Arsenal. I have lost count over the number of times he has done that this season.
“I’m the captain of Arsenal and I owe them. I would never go behind their back. I would never meet or talk with anybody without them knowing. If someone wants me then they have to talk to Wenger. I am very happy at Arsenal.
“I have felt as if I belonged to this club ever since I arrived. They had blind faith in me and I want to be here many years. Believe me.Wenger is the best. He is the boss and my relationship with him is exceptional.”
Cesc also praised Arshavin: “Andrey is an incredible player and is going to give so much to the team. He is a born winner and we already have a great understanding with him on the pitch.”
Cesc: We need to be positive
Cesc has backed Arsenal to do well in the future, as long as the team stays together.(Source)
“It has been a difficult season. For a young squad like ours we did quite well. It is tough, but you have to stand up and look for the future. If we keep going and keep the team together, I am sure this team will have a lot to say in the future.
‘We need to be positive, to help each other and I am sure we will be okay on Sunday.’
I agree with Cesc. If none of the players leave, and Arsenal buy another player or two, then I think this team will have enough to win something next year. The team has a lot of potential.

The yellow card was ridiculous. It looked like a dive from Drogba to me.
Hmm. I don’t think we deserved a penalty. Adebayor looked as though he was diving in the box.
Theo had so many chances. It was tortorous seeing all the chances that came to him but he failed to convert. Ah well. Hopefully next time, he will be more lucky.
I agree completely about Bendtner. In the latter part of this season he has impressed me a lot.
I read Arshavin’s comments.Rather than saying that to the press, I think he should have said it to the players.
I know. It looks horrible. It hasn’t been confirmed yet that that is the new away kit, but people are pretty much sure it is. I preferred the green version that was leaked earlier in the year.
Arshavin is fit for the man united match which is a big boost. He will make a lot of difference. Hopefully he’ll be able to score a goal or two.
Rosicky is also back in full training.
I hope he manages to stay fit. He makes a lot of diffrence when he is in the team, and being out for 16 months must have been really hard for him. Especially as no-one knew what exactly was wrong with him.
by the way plu , u think cesc looked gorgeous in the pics because he was wearing black ! and i thought the reason was carla all this time
and what the hell is wrong with our new away kits ? it looks like pejammas for god sake , horrible :S
hey plu ! i didnt stop commenting .:)
diaby sometimes plays good , sometimes not .
the game was pathetic . the 4th goal was abslutely offside and we deserved at least one penalty over there . the yellow card for cesc was a joke and this apart from the 1000 or 10000 goal theo should have scored during the whole match . robin was so quiet . bendtner is developping . if u compared him to last season , he is much better . i think fabianski would do better if we have a solid defence . there is no good understabding between him and kolo , yet .
mourinho is said to be interested in cesc , and asked wenger how much it would cost him to buy cesc this season but still rumours .
i think we really deserved to win against chelsea . we played much better than them . what a shame . we lack goals lately . it isnt a good thing . and arshavin comments about the game and his team mates were hard too but maybe that’s what they need to wake up .
GO GUNNERS
GO FABREGAS
ARSENAL 4 LIFE
I miss people talking too.
Since Rose and Sam left people have stopped commenting for some reason.
Thank you
It´s okay. I was missing people talking here…
But it´s important to study for the exams… good lucky!
It’s ok Emma. Alice was only joking
Yeah. I noticed that there was a problem with commenting on some posts and navigating around the pages. I have notified Daniel so hopefully that should be fixed soon.
Yep. Gary Cahill. He will cost £20 million though and Bolton want to keep him. I don’t see Wenger paying that much for him. But we will just have to wait and see until the summer. There are various names which are being linked to Arsenal in the news. I have given up trying to figure out which ones are true and false.
Yeah. I read the news about Mourinho apparently contacting Arsenal to inquire about Cesc. But it is speculation so far, and there is no proof or quotes from Mourinho to say he has done. For that reason, I haven’t included it in the post.
Has anyone seen the new away kit? I’m not really fond of the colour…
its ok Plu.
Alice dont be too hard….
l have difficulties in entering this web lately…..n cannot send comments.
latest news i read somewhere is Arsenal is interested in Cahill…true/false?He is a defender..is it…we really need good defence.
Another news is…Maurinho is interested in our Cesc….offering 44.3 million EURO for him…..I am happy coz he want CEsc n put high price for him….It showed that he is good…..but I from deep down my heart want him to stay….as a GUNNER….as a CAPTAIN.
Gah. I know. I’ve been terrible with the site lately. Sorry Alice and everyone else. We should really be doing blasts from the pasts but right now we have exams so I know we have not been doing well with running the site and devoting as much time as we should. But over the summer we will make the site so much better (more videos and pictures from past seasons and various other things) as we will have lots of time on our hands!:)
where are the news? you´re too lazy!!!
Arsenal 1 – Chelsea 4!!
a disappointing week for our Boys!!
they played well thru out the entire match except for a few moments but lady luck wasnt by their side!!
arsenen seriously need to buy another goalie who is WAY better than fabianski!! most of the goals conceded by Chelsea are due to his poor misjudgement.. very disappointing with his performance today..
hopefully our Boys will bounce back when they’re against Man Utd next week..
Yep, we are definitely good enough to win something next season…
the only players I have doubts about are Diaby, he’s the worst footballer I have seen (no pace, no vision a lot of errors – doesn’t fit in the team) and Bendtner…he’s not sharp enough in front of goal for this Arsenal team. And age is not a matter, cause Messi is young, Huntelaar is young, Rooney is young. Cesc was 17, yet played like a 30 year old, so there you go.
I would love to see Yaya Toure in an Arsenal shirt, hes the kind of player we need and Diaby never will be.
