Cesc wants to remain unbeaten until the end of the season

9 April 2009

Here is a quote from Cesc, in which he says that he wants the unbeaten run to continue. He also talks about the upcoming games.(Source)

“It’s quite good what we have done, but it is not enough. We want to go all the way.

“We have said to ourselves we do not want to lose another game before the end of the season and that’s what we will try to do. Of course, we cannot say for definite that will happen. But that’s the aim, for sure. That has been our intention. We have done it during the past few weeks. We just need to keep it going for a few weeks more.”

“It is a good 10 days we have coming up now. We will play three very important matches for the players and the club that will decide our season and where we can go.I’m very confident that if we keep going and playing like we are doing, we can do well.

“We have been playing quite well throughout the whole season, yet for some reason some people decided to go a little bit against us. Some people tried to create a little bit of a bad atmosphere.

“We can answer them by winning things and that’s what we are aiming to do over the remainder of the season. That’s why these next few days are key for us.

“We have Villarreal in the Champions League, then Chelsea, an amazing team, in the FA Cup semi-final. We still have a big say in the season.”

I hope the unbeaten run can continue for a long time. It would be great if this run outlasted the Invincibles one, but I think that is looking too far ahead.Need to focus on the next match. The next two games are going to be crucial for Cesc and Arsenal, with them playing Villarreal midweek, and then Chelsea at the weekend for the FA Cup. Good luck to Cesc and Arsenal! :D

Arsenal 4- Wigan 1.

Arsenal always seem to go a goal down, before they start scoring! The first half was not as good for Arsenal, as the second.Mido scored an impressive volley for Wigan in the 20th minute. Djourou limped off to be replaced by Silvestre. (The defence all seem to be getting injured at the moment.) With the second half, came a better Arsenal performance, with four goals being scored. Theo scored in the 60th minute- his first goal since October, for Arsenal.A Fabregas assist(4 assists in 3 games! ^^) saw Silvestre also getting himself on the scoresheet. After having provided the assist for Theo’s goal, Arshavin also managed to get himself a goal in the 90th minute. This was followed by a display of individual brilliance, which saw Song slot in the fourth. Full match report here.

I have added some more pictures from the villarreal match (including one with his injured Spanish teammate Santi Cazorla), as well as some from the Wigan match, in the latest photos section.

Cesc is proud of his teams performance.

Cesc spoke about how proud he was of Arsenal’s ‘warrior’ like perfgormance, after they went a goal down against Villarreal.

“I feel really proud as captain of this team. When you see team- mates playing like warriors it is really good to play next to them. They should be proud as well.

“We showed great character in Villarreal and we showed how determined we are to win something this season.

“I think we could have done a bit better but we can’t complain after losing Manuel (Almunia) and William (Gallas). To do that and still come back and get a 1-1 is not a bad result.

“We still have a lot of work do and it is important that get all the players back.

He also said that he needed three matches to get back to his best.

I don’t feel 100 per cent yet. This was only my second game. I played 90 minutes on Saturday I played 80 minutes on Tuesday. That is not easy after over three months out. I feel I need three more games to be at my best.

But definitely when you are like that you can finish the season better than the players who have played the whole time.

Talking about his pass to Aebayor, he said:
He did everything, my ball was nothing. His first touch was amazing and I never expected him to do something like that. That shows you all the quality he has got.

Uefa + missile investigation

Uefa are going to launch an investigation against the claim that objects were thrown at Cesc in the Villarreal match. The missiles were thrown when Cesc went up to take a corner, and Cesc picked them up to show them to the ref. Cesc spoke about the incident.

“It was something gold, I don’t know what – but that is football, no problem.”

FA + spitting incident

The FA have asked Arsenal to put forward their observations about the ‘spitting incident’.Arsenal have a week to reply. (Source)

Hey Tuty. We just have to hope our offence can score a lot of goals.Hopefully our defense will be able to hold up.As long as their are no more injuries…

  2. Tuty says:

I’m worried with all these injuries… our defence is vulnerable now.

Here are Wenger’s comments on the game, from the Arsenal website, for anyone hwo is interested.:

On being ‘worried’ after going a goal behind…
“Yes, I was. I felt that Wigan had a very strong and especially committed first half where they were well organised and the 50:50s were all for them. They played very strongly and I think that slowly our technique took over and we looked dangerous every time we had the ball. The fatigue crept in a little bit for Wigan and it became logical for us to come back and make the difference.

On Kieran Gibbs’ possible red card at the end of the first half…
“I was like everybody else from Arsenal; scared it could be a red card. I hoped it would be a yellow. At that moment I thought that Mikael Silvestre was behind Gibbs and I hoped it would be a yellow. I still think our goalkeeper would have got the ball – it was not a goal chance, he had pushed the ball too far.

“Like the rest of our defence in the first half we were a bit on the back foot. We became stronger and stronger and in the second half he was much better.”

On the chances of coming back if Gibbs had been dismissed…
“I don’t know, we would have tried – that’s the only guarantee I can give you. We have shown great character and mental strength again for such a young team. We have shown some quality and mental quality that are very interesting for the future.”

On the performance of Theo Walcott…
“The whole team, Theo Walcott as well, were not on the ball enough. We had problems getting rid of the man-to-man marking from the Wigan players. once we took over they couldn’t maintain the pace and we became dangerous.”

    On another defensive injury problem…
“Johan Djourou has a knee problem and that’s the bad news of the day. It looks as though he’ll be out for Wednesday. We lost two central defenders in two games, we have a few more games to go and we haven’t got enough of them to lose one every game.”

what happen with arsenal having injured player all the time?it’s like being cursed! I worried too that we lost our defender one by one,,i don’t know if our defense will still as good as before,, btw, i know that if arshavin, cesc, and walcott playing together it would be a threat to all enemies! They’re fantastic trio.

  6. Plu says:

I’m getting worried about our defence. That’s , Gallas, Clichy, Almunia and Djourou out now.

Well done to the boys!! First halfs have seriously not been good for Arsenal lately. But yay for the second halfs! I heard Arshavin had a great performance. And congrats to Cesc for getting aother assist. It’s great that his play is based no intelligence rather than the physical side.

  7. Plu says:

Hi SApida. I think we have a good chance of getting through to. Having the last leg at home will be a boost.

I agree Marwa. Many don;t seem to like his tattoo but I think it looks great.

Update on injuries. Gallas is out for the rest of the season. And Clichy is out with a back injury.

  8. marwa says:

cesc nt only u we r also proud of u guys u guys r really rockin n ur tattoos are superb u r lookin very cool

  9. SApida says:

Great Game considering we were at a difficult stadium. Slow to start but the second half the play from way tight. The injuries are a detriment though.

The Villa fans were throwing a lot of things including coke cans and toilet paper rolls. Not cool.

I think we have an excellent chance of getting through.
