Arsenal 3-0 Burnley

dudugoalburnley

The goals are flying in now! In the 25th minute, Carlos Vela took on three defenders, finishing with a beautiful chip. Then followed Eduardo’s amazing volley (how does he do that?) at the start of the second half. The game was finished off by Eboue, who smashed the ball into the bottom corner in the 84th minute(nice dance celebrations!). The game also saw Theo Walcott come on as sub, after having been out for a while with an injury. All in all a comfortable match for the boys, who go on to face Hull city in the next round. Match report
If Arsenal manage to beat Hull, then they will face Chelsea in the semi-finals.

Cesc’s column in the Sun

cesctrainingsil

A while back, Cesc had his own cloumn in the Sun.Today he was the columnist again, and he had a lot to say. He talks about: his injury and how it was his bodies way of telling him that he needed a break, how he felt about being out so long, his recovery, his views on Manchester United, and the rest of the season that awaits Arsenal. The article also contains his comeback diary.

I’ve picked out a few little quotes from that article. He talks about hopefully returning by April 4th, something that he has previously already mentioned.

Nothing is definite yet, but I’ve got one eye on the home game against Manchester City on April 4 for my return.
The way I look at things, I am very fortunate to be returning for the business part of the season, the most exciting stage of the campaign when the trophies and European qualification places are settled.

He goes on to talk about Arsenal needing to be more clinical and his hopes for the season.

Out on the pitch, we just need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal. If we can do that I really feel we can end this season on a high. The Premier League will always be Arsenal’s priority and I am convinced we will finish the season in the top four at least. But I also have a very good feeling about the Champions League and the FA Cup, two huge trophies which are both within our grasp.

He then goes on to say that he has full faith in the team to beat the other top three, and that they can finish in the top four:

We’ve also still got to play United, Chelsea AND Liverpool in the final month of the Premier League. We have beaten them all in the past, so why can’t we do it again?

Lasty,he ends in a captainesque style

Everyone at Arsenal has to stay strong. We all have to believe we can still finish in the top four.

Cesc wants to win the Confederations cup
Cesc is hoping that Spain are able to walk away with the trophy and winners medals in the Confederations Cup, which is being held in South Africa this summer. (source)

“The Confederations Cup is a big tournament, a very prestigious one and we’re really looking forward to it. As players, you also want to be part of such important things,”

“We will be up against some very strong teams, but we’re very confident at the moment and playing some good football.”

The Confederations Cup is often called the ‘Championship of Champions cup’. Eight teams participate in this prestigious tournament. The participating teams are the winners of each of the six FIFA confederation championsips, as well as the Fifa World Cup winner and the host country. So the participating teams this year will be : Brazil, Egypt Iraq, Italy, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, and the United States.

  • Crazygal_mila- yep. Song’s performance was impressive indeed. Good on him. Let’s hope those performances continue. :)

Theo’s goal chance- I kept on thinking chip the ball like vela and it will go in, but he shot straight at the keeper.

And yes, Cesc was there. They showed him cheering either eduardo or vela scored (can’t remember which one they showed him cheerign at) But they where showing Wenger cheering, and Cesc was in the background so he may not have been that easy to pick out. I have not come across any pictures of him at the game, but if I do then I will post it in the photo gallery.

    Kate- yep. Loved his scarf!

If Eboue keeps up those performances and clinches one or two more goals, then people will probably get off his back. It must have been tough for him because everyone liked to blame him and not many Arsenal fans seem to like him. But I’m happy that he got that goal. It must have been a big relief for him.

  • good game & performance from our Boys!! :p

Song was good in yesterday match; he set up two of the goals.. a pat on the back for him!! :D

Theo looked dangerous at some time & he could have put his name on the scoresheet if the goalie didnt stop his goal.. but overall; he’s good.. :)

Eboue had a good game as well.. nice dance celebrations at the corner of the field with Song & Sagna.. it was so cute!! :)

but too bad; i didnt manage to catch a glimpse of Cesc sitting behind the team.. was he there yesterday?? anyone knows??

  • Arsene Wenger’s comments on the game

    On the performance…
“We did the job in a serious way. In the first half they made the job very difficult for us because they marked us tightly. We kept good defensive tightness and we scored a goal. In the second half we scored brilliant goals. We could have had a few more but overall we did the job in a conscientious and serious way. Before going to Roma it is good that we didn’t concede and we scored.”

On going to Roma off the back of this victory…
“We are going into the game with belief and extreme desire to qualify. The positive is we didn’t concede and we go there knowing that, not only can we go there and defend, but we want to go forward and attack at every opportunity.”

On Eduardo’s goal of the season contender…
“It looked a little bit like a beach goal; with the outside of his left foot into the top corner. It is surprising that he sliced the ball as well. He is a surprising finisher and a very intelligent player.

“He has short back-lift and he makes quick decision on what to do. He makes decisions very quickly. When you look at the goalscorers they move in the box while everyone else is standing and watching – he has that. Those people always score goals.”

On the contribution of Alex Song…
“He did well. He is growing in stature. He has good balance, reads the game well and wins the ball then uses it well. He is a real holding player naturally. He is also a good central defender.”

    On Emmanuel Eboue’s late strike…
“Usually when he gets in front of goal he loses his composure. I believe he needed that. Some people convince themselves that they cannot score but then when they do they realise it is not as difficult as they imagined.”

    On the season’s positive turnaround…
“We have many targets in front of us it now depends on how well we do until the rest of the season. We know every game demands a big performance now because we cannot afford to slip up. It is exciting because this group is extremely determined and it has been a pleasure to work with them. They have not always been rewarded and I want them to. We now go into the time where it matters.

“Is it possible to win two trophies? Yes because we are in there. After that it is important to give everything we can to make it happen. Many big competitors are in there so let’s see how well it goes on Wednesday night and then see.

“We are going into the final sprint and for us it’s important to keep all our targets alive. Slowly we have players coming back and that can of course be decisive.”

  • Lol. I agree with you Robbie. His comments about training being much better with his friends around him is just so nice. And yeah, just so Cesc <3

Wenger said he may try to get Cesc ready by March 21st. But that doesn't seem right seeing as he only started training properly this week, and he still has to start full training. But I'm sure this month will go past in a flash, and then we'll have cesc playing again. :D Infact, we will have all our players back by then O_o….that would be so great. After cesc, I think I'm most looking forward to seeing Rosicky play, as he has been out for AGES.

And I agree with Cesc. We can get fourth and we will!

And for all those who may be interested, there is an interview with Arshavin here Turns out that that story about Andrey (or Shava, as that is what people in Russia call him) flying in his hairdresser from Russia to cut his hair is not true.
There is also a funny bit, which is not included in that web video but was on the tv when it was aired. Andrey said that everyone has a Blackberry but he doesn’t need one, and says what reason is there to have one. The interviewer says: ” To send emails” And Andrey replies with “But who? Just Bendtner! How are you?!”
    lool. :)

  • Don’t you just love Cesc’s comment – that rehab is so much better now Tomas, Theo , Ade and Eduardo are there (ah,Cesc baby, it’s not a good thing that a huge portion of the first team is on the treatment table!) but, his comment is just so CESC!!! :P

You could just see the smile on his face…. and the small salute the lads have to El Capitan! :D

Somi – I totally agree, although pic # 10 would be a close second!

Great to hear of our boys on the comeback trail …. even though Cesc soounds further away than the Mar 21st date Wenger had predicted ?!

But, any action shots of lil’Cescito after that fateful day in December are a welcome and that day he steps back onto the pitch for Arsenal’s first team is a little less distant!

    Onward to Wembley! :D
