Cesc steps up recovery

Cesc Fabregas specs

(Source) Here are some more of Cesc’s comments from the captains notes that appeared in yesterday’s official match programme.

On Andrey Arshavin joining Arsenal

“Since my last notes Andrey Arshavin has joined us. To be honest, I know little about him, but I rang him before the Tottenham game just to welcome him to the Club. Everybody tells me that he’s a really nice guy who is very happy to be with us.”

On Aaron Ramsey’s progress

“He’s [Ramsey] done well here so far – he’s a quiet boy who dedicates himself to training and learning from the players around him. He’s a very honest player.”

On his injury

“There are three stages of the rehabilitation: The first is the operation, the second is to build the muscle in the leg up, and the third is to start running and kicking the ball again. I have now started the final part of the process.

“Over the last couple of weeks I have been going up into the mountains to work and it’s been hard but good for my muscles. I’m really happy with how it’s going. It’s looking good and hopefully in ten days I can start to train with the ball, so it’s going a bit quicker than I thought it would.”

On the break from football

“In a way hopefully this break will do me good. I was speaking to Colin Lewin, saying that I hadn’t felt completely at my best since the beginning of the season when I had a little injury on my leg. I think it was a nice time to be away from London too – Colin came to see me in Barcelona. We had a little chat about Arsenal and ate fish next to the sea, it was unbelievably hot!”

On being back at the club

“I can’t wait until I can touch the ball again, because it’s about eight weeks since I’ve kicked a ball and I think that’s the longest time of my whole life!”

From this week, I will be back at the club, in the dressing room and around my team-mates, and I will see them going out to training, travelling to the games and that will make me jealous,” he added.

“It will give me more desire to get fit as quickly as possible so I can be in the team again.

“Over the last few weeks I have only thought of my injury, but now it’s time for me to come back to the team. I am the captain and I have responsibilities. I have to be next to my team-mates even if I’m not playing.”

Arsenal 4 – 0 Cardiff: Welcome back Eduardo!

Above are video highlights from the match, make sure you press the HQ button.

A wonderful and deserved victory by Arsenal, puts us through to the 5th round of the FA Cup where we will face Burnley on March 7th or 8th.

Eduardo made a heroic come back for Arsenal scoring a brace to mark his return in style! When his name was read out he received the loudest cheer from the home support and his every touch was applauded. It was a joy to have him back after the terrible injury he suffered last February. When he scored his first goal the crowd went wild and I suspect the cheers could be heard right across London! When he scored his second from the penalty spot, he blew kisses to the crowd and hugged his fitness trainer. I don’t think anyone watching would have done so dry eyed. It was wonderful.

Bendtner and Van Persie added great goals of their own as the gunners demolished Cardiff convincingly, watched by captain Fabregas and new boy Arshavin in the stands. A happy night for all! Match Report and a few match pics

Hopefully Cesc will find the same “will to succeed” and “fight” that our number nine has…..of that I don’t doubt but, it’s a long road back (especially that first 50/50 tackle!)…..

Loving the updates, highlights, Captains’ notes and all the rest….top notch site! …..

I’m hoping to see Arsenal play Barcelona… in May… in the final of the CL… I wouldn’t mind that as long as the scoreline was the other way around this time XD

but I rang him before the Tottenham game just to welcome him to the Club. ooo. Very good. Very captainesque

We had a little chat about Arsenal and ate fish next to the sea, it was unbelievably hot!” The image of them two sitting by the sea and eating fish amuses me for some reason. Is he saying the fish were very hot?…..

The scoreline can only do great things for the teams confidence.

I’m looking forward to seeing Arshavin debut Saturday. I shant miss that!

Hi kimmie :D Sorry I forgot to answer you, the Cesc Fabregas official website and official facebook account were set up by and are looked after by Cesc’s Uncle not Cesc :D Player’s official sites, facebooks, myspaces etc aren’t the players personal accounts and are usually looked after by family or staff. Hope that helps :D

  • Thanks Plu :D It doesn’t sound right sorry as they are saying June 13 in the article. It says nothing is definite and I wouldn’t think about it until it is :D as the confederations cup starts June 14 and Cesc, Xavi, Iniesta, Puyol, and possibly one or two other FCB players like Pique or bojan could get the call and be with Spain then. Also Silvestre has a firm arrangement for a charity match in New York on June 14 that Titi has committed too http://www.arsenal.com/news/community-news/silvestre-leads-schools-for-hope-charity-game and Clichy, Sagna, Gallas, Adebayor and Almunia are all playing in that – so a lot of players won’t be available for a June 13 charity match.

If there was going to be one I have to admit I would want it to be at a different time, as for me it would be a lot less exciting without those players – I’m a big Titi fan as you know and I like that Fabregas guy a little bit too :D Still I’d watch it even if it’s the Carling Cup kids with Eduardo, Theo, Andrey, Robin and Nick.

Agree with you Plu the way the team were so happy was just lovely. The goal celebrations get me right <3 there! Awww! Watching the highlights I'm welling up again :D

i think one of Eds outstanding qualities is his intelligence and that has helped him come back so well.

have to say Cardiff were absolute shiite and helped make us look good. We had players like Gallas and Song who put in a very ordinary day at the office so we still have a ways to go.

Thanks for the highlights Sam. :)
It was a real special moment when I scored the first goal — and, yes, I had tears in my eyes because I felt very emotional. <3 I just want to give him a big hug!

I’m now looking forward to the next match, me being the impatient me. ^^ Hopefully we will see Arshavin play.( seeing Dudu and Arshavin possibly play in the same week. It seems like we are being spoilt!) I think he might possibly start, seeing as he won’t be playing mid week in the cl. If he doesn’t start then I hope Vela does. But something tells me that Wenger will probably start with Eboue, if he doesn’t start with Andrey.

Hiya MiLA :D meant to say before… though I’m only guessing… but I think Cesc would have gone to the mountains because hill walking/jogging develops your calf muscles and the muscles around the knee that stabilise it… because hills place a particular pressure on your legs. You can get the same thing using an incline on a treadmill of course lol but may be he likes the outdoors and the fresh air :D Just my guess.

  • Fantastic. Eduardo offers so much more than goal scoring. His movement, positioning, and passing make a real difference around the box. Cutting in, giving it to Vela and scoring from the cross was pure class. Remarkable he could come back like that, it was as if he’d never been gone.

Good team performance as Wenger said. A confidence boost for everyone.

Here’s some quotes from Eduardo that were in The Sun

Eduardo said: “This was the best night of my life because it proved I could play again at the very highest level.

“It was a real special moment when I scored the first goal — and, yes, I had tears in my eyes because I felt very emotional.

“I celebrated by kissing my wedding ring because my wife Andreja, my young daughter Lorena and the rest of my family have supported me all the way through this.”

    Tuty

    February 16, 2009

  • Here’s Arsene’s comments

    On Eduardo’s dream return to first-team action…
“I am not surprised he played well tonight. I didn’t play him as a reward for his excellent work; it was because in training over the past few weeks he has done extremely well. He made a big step forward two weeks ago when he found sharpness in front of goal and in his runs and he got rid of his apprehension in the tackles.

“Of course it is nearly 12 months out and he has been extremely strong mentally during that time, I could never see one minute of doubt in his mind or one minute where he said ‘no, I don’t want to do it’. He always wanted more and this guy is small but has the mental strength of a mountain.

“He is intelligent, talented and he understands what is happening quickly. He responds very quickly to every situation. That is why he is a striker. He is a quiet boy. He is very, very quiet – he is focussed but of course very happy tonight.“

On the striker’s poignant celebration with Tony Colbert…
“I think Tony Colbert has spent more time with Eduardo than with his wife. So perhaps he deserves that kind of hug. The physios and doctors have as well done a tremendous job with him. We use him when he is ready but they did a lot of work with him and have done a great job.”

On the importance of having him back…
“We will know how important this was at the end of the season. I am very happy to have him back because he gives us options. He can play on flank, he can play central, he can play on the shoulder or upfront on his own. It is fantastic for us.

“I still have to be cautious with him and I cannot throw him in every three days after nine months. We will see how he responds to that hamstring and maybe he can be with us on Saturday, I don’t know.”

    On the fantastic team performance…
“Of course everybody’s happy for him but I believe it was a good team performance; dynamic, convincing and mobile. We played the kind of football we love to play and it is good to see us play with handbrake off. We are now consistent, we are stable defensively, and we added tonight our drive going forward.

“We played the game we want to play and Eduardo played a big part in that. Everybody is of course pleased for him tonight.”

    On Cardiff’s performance…
“They gave us a hard time over there. I felt today the speed of our passing gave them a big problem. It is easier to play our kind of football here than it was at Ninian Park.

“Something in the Cardiff team, when we played them over there, made me think they have real belief and the real quality. I didn’t see any weak position in their team, where you think they aren’t good enough. Today they were dominated as a team, and it is very difficult tonight to find the same impression because of that. They had to run after the game after we scored which was much more difficult.

“We have played Burnley and Cardiff and I would say they are sides who have a chance to come up, a really good chance. If you look at the table Cardiff are 12 points behind the leaders with a few games in hand. They have a good chance but I think for them it is better to go out of the FA Cup.”

On taking FA cup confidence into the league…
“We are very consistent and we are on a very strong run. We missed the goals recently but I believe we are on a very strong run. We promised ourselves we would give everything until the last day of the season. At the moment Man United look untouchable – they are 12 points ahead with a game against Fulham which they will certainly win. Their results are really consistent, they win 1-0. You always think during the game that they may drop points but they always manage to find the resources to win the game.

“If they win the game in hand they are 15 points in front. That means we need to lose five. Say they lose one against us, that is four. They still need to lose another four but they haven’t done that yet. Our basic target is to get in the Champions League which means the league is our priority.”

So Bri it sounds like Dudu niggled his hamstring but nothing major and probably to be expected part of him getting match hardened again

It was so nice to see Arsene looking happy. *hugs for Arsene* It’s been a tough season I’m sure he needed this lift too.

  • It been ages since I have last enjoyed an Arsenal match like this one.I had a smile on my face throughout.
Dudu <3 I was so happy that he got his goals. You could tell how much it meant to by the first goal- the look of gratitude on his face when he hugged and then kissed vela on the forehead. Such a sweet moment. And then for the second going to one of the medical team members. <3 Made me tear up watching. I’m so happy for him!

Congrats to Bendtner and Rvp too.
And we finally get to see Bischoff play!

The lads did well all around. I’m proud of them <3 Lets hope we carry on this momentum :)

I have been going up into the mountains to work O_o Mountains? I didn’t know players went to mountains to build up their fitness.

Over the last few weeks I have only thought of my injury, but now it’s time for me to come back to the team. I am the captain and I have responsibilities. I have to be next to my team-mates even if I’m not playing.” <3 <3 <3
    Sounds promising. :)
