Congratulations Eduardo

10 February 2009

eduardo Da Silva

Eduardo da Silva made his long awaited return to first team football this evening, coming on for Croatia in the 61st minute of their friendly against Romania. He marked the occasion by setting up the winning goal, providing the assist to Niko Kranjcar with 15 minutes remaining, helping Croatia to a 2-1 victory. He played very well, showing a great first touch and although it has been a long and tough road back from injury, his class shone through. Hopefully we will see him get some minutes against Cardiff City.

As far as I’m aware all the Arsenal boys have come through the international break unscathed and Cesc will be pleased to have seen Spain win their friendly against England 2-0.

Cesc Fabregas: Spain v England

(Source) Cesc Fabregas spoke with the media ahead of tomorrow’s friendly between spain and England. Cesc said

“England are a totally different proposition under Capello. He’s changed them in every respect. They have become very disciplined, they defend so well and it’s so hard to score against them now.

“Their defenders are like Italian defenders and they defend as if they were Italian.

“Capello has made them defend first ahead of anything else now and England are a world-class team who will be tough opponents at a World Cup.

“In (Fernando) Torres and (David) Villa we have world-class strikers, but John Terry and Rio Ferdinand are brilliant defenders, they know their opponents.”

Frustrated at not being fit to play in Seville, and in spite of recognising England’s vast improvement, Cesc remains confident of a Spanish victory.

“It will be very hard for me not to play because this would have been such a special game for me. – but I think Spain will win. We are European champions and are playing with confidence and belief.”

Theo Walcott webchat – Theo did a webchat with Arsenal TV Online on Monday, here’s a nice quote from it: “I think a captain should either be in the middle of the park or a centre-back. You’ve got to be a strong character, you’ve got to be very loud on the pitch and give encouragement to the team.

“They are the main qualities and I think Cesc has got them all. I think he will be a brilliant captain for us.” If you haven’t listened to it, you can check it out here as it’s free.

  5. Plu says:

ok. Turns out that there might be a slight injury to Ramsey:

“From last night’s internationals we have a small alert on Aaron Ramsey,” said Wenger. “He picked up an injury with Wales and we’ll see how he is on Friday.

“From what I heard he has stretched his medial knee ligament. It is hard to tell anything when you have not seen the player yet.

  6. Plu says:

Congrats dudu!I’m so happy for him ^^ Hope to see him play soon

And thank god none of our players are injured.

Just saw this interview with the beast,,, seems he keeps in touch with Cesc

  10. max says:

mabbe it was a bit optimistoc to think England had a chance lol but at least we didn’t get thrashed!

Anyway I’m glad the break is over and now we can get back to the really important football

  11. bri says:

Good news that the Arsenal boys all came through injury-free as we really can’t afford any… the squad is already so thin now!

Wonderful news about Dudu. Awww bless him I hope things will go great for him now :D

  12. Rose says:

Hi Kate :D I don’t know if arsene went or not, there weren’t any photos of him in amongst the photos from the event, so perhaps not.

Hi Kim li :D I think he is eligible to play in the FA Cup replay because he was a part of the Arsenal squad at the time of the original game.

Hiddink huh. OK it’s officially time to worry now lolol j/k

    Agree 100% NY-Gunner :D

  13. kim li says:

Cesc is a good captain! Hope he back soon!!

Congratulations Eduardo. Is he elegible for FA Cup now?

  14. TA says:

Well it’s definite it’s Hiddink. Pity. Yes Plu, you’re quite right I shouldn’t discount the dutch league especially as he led PSV to a CL win but I was trying to be positive. Bottom line is he’s an extremely good manager with an unbelievable track record and all we can do is hope that he doesn’t do as well as you would expect with Chelsea… sigh.

Anyway if Eddie comes back and starts setting up winners for us, that might help a bit

  15. george says:

Capello’s got a bit more work to do,,, it wasn’t all bad and it’s not like anyone thought we would win tbh,,, chuffed for Eduardo

  16. NY _Gunner says:

That’s great news about Dudu. He’s a real inspiration. What he’s gone through and to come back and get an assist. He’s da man!

  17. matt says:

Happy for dudu wish I’d been able to watch that game but I didn’t get home in time

  18. sam says:

Agreed Plu. You have to give Becks credit for looking like he was actually up for it. Villas’s goal was something special.

I was really pleased for Eddy. You can see he’s lacking a bit of match fitness but a run of games would sort that out. He was excellent and as Rosie said you could see the same class. It’s really great to see him back playing at that level and enjoying himself. I always worried after that horrendous injury…if he would ever really be the same player again… but after tonight I really feel confident he’s going to be and I’m really happy for him.

  19. Plu says:

2-0 to Spain. England did create a few good chances, and those two goals were conceded due to bad errors, so there’s some consolation. Ah well. They played fairly ok in my eyes. I didn’t expect them to win against Spain. And congrats to Beckham for his 108th cap ^^ I really do like him as a player, and I hope he carries on to win more caps.

  20. matt says:

Well Spain are a top team and I think Cesc is rite they will probably win it especially as stevieg and shrek are missing as well as our hat-trick hero Walcott but I hope the England lads give them a good run for their money :)

  21. kate says:

i didnt read that arsene wenger was really there in lagos last night , does anyone know if he was really there ?

  22. Plu says:

Hiddink has officially become Chelsea’s manager. Not good news for us.

    http://www.chelseafc.com/page/Home/0,,10268,00.html

  23. Plu says:

Still he has no real history at club level Yes he does. Hinddink was the manager of PSV Eindhoven between 2002-2006 and he won three Dutch League titles with them. And he coached Austrailia alongside PSV. It looks like he is going to manage chelsea to the end of the year, although he has said that if he did join he will not join before the next match that Chelsea has. It will be bad for us if he does manage Chelsea- we really need them to slip up, and they looked like the ones most likely out of the other four.

    Cesc’s fierce face ^^

    Spain england match soon.^^ I can’t wait.

  24. afc says:

thanx for the pix, i luv these nike ads

  25. jas says:

awww I <3 Theo and I like it when my boys say sweet things about each other XD

  26. fonz says:

    congrats to Ade!

Looking forward to seeing Theo back he is an important attacking threat and outlet for us, when we have him and Fab back we’ll be a lot more dangerous.

  27. max says:

I’m looking forward to this friendly it should be a good game of footie and I think the 3 lions have a fighting chance!

  28. jas says:

haha i like his fierce face XD looks more tarzan mid yell than green goblin to me!!

Shouldn’t he close his mouth with all that red dust floating around? Just looking out for his well-being XD

  29. Rose says:

Hi Somi :D I haven’t heard any more news on Cesc’s recovery since the quotes from his doctor came out saying he was ahead of schedule. I know Cesc said in the captain’s notes for the West Ham United game that he would see the Arsenal doctors in mid-Feb and that they would have more of an idea about his return date then. So perhaps we will hear something in the next week.

  30. somi says:

awww!!thts so sweet of ade:) n its very sad tht cescy wont play against england:( btw any more news abt cescys recovery??
    best of luck to spain!!

  31. bri says:

wow!! He looks so FIERCE in that Nike pic lol he looks like the green (only red) goblin from the spidey films!

  32. Rose says:

lol George and TA at least wait for the Hiddink thing to be definite before you start worrying :D

Hi Tuty :D Adebayor was in Lagos for the African player of the year awards and he won :D (Yay!) There was a story that Gallas, Nasri, Cesc and Arsene were going to attend to support Ade but as Sam said – we know that story was wrong as both Nasri and Gallas are on intl duty with France and could not have gone, so we don’t know who went, apart from Ade, he was there and dedicated his award to his mother :D

  33. Tuty says:

Rose, I usually support England too (together with Italy and now Spain!). Maybe it will be a draw… heheh. What is the story about Wenger, Cesc and Nasri going to Africa about? tell me more!

  34. TA says:

You’re rite george…Hiddink is bad news. He has consistently managed to make teams perform well above expectations. I would much rather Chel$ki still had Scolari. Still he has no real history at club level but what he did with Sth Korea and Australia was bordering on miraculous.

Good news about Theo, made me laugh to see he has been watching Arshavin on youtube…just like the rest of us

  35. Plu says:

    congrats to adebayor!!!! XD

  36. sam says:

I don’t know that those reports in the Nigerian papers about who was to go the glo-caf awards with Adebayor were accurate because Gallas and Nasri are most definitely with the France NT and aren’t in Lagos. So really we have no idea who did actually go.

Anyway pleased for Ade it’s good that he won.

Thanks George :D That’s good news about Theo and not such good news about Hiddink… time will tell.

  37. kate says:

adebayor have just won best african player award .
    amazing !
hope his spirits up now . i was so glad when i knew that arsene , cesc , nasri and gallas are all going with him to lagos . what a team .
    GO GUNNERS
    GO FABREGAS

  38. ~meri says:

I supporting Italia but I hope a little hope for England because Beckham is 108th cap and I like him very much :o )

  39. Plu says:

I’m so excited about this match, because we can test ourselves against the best team in the world right now XD. It’s hopefully going to be a great game of football :)
Realistically, I think Spain will win (or a possible draw). They seem unbeatable right now. But I hope England give them a close match. That will make me very proud of the boys.

It must be a pain not being able to play :( I really wanted to see Cesc play this game.

    Good luck to dudu. ^^

  40. mini says:

I will miss Cescito. It won’t be the same without him! Go Spain!!

  41. robbie96 says:

This match just won’t be the same without Cesc….I must admit when it was announced ….I was so excited Spain v England….”we could be watching the World Cup Match”….

rofl…well “England” probably not so much but, you never know….Cesc is right, they seem to be playing differently under Capello….torn loyalties…sniffle,sniffle…..

it’s a shame Cescito can’t be a “roving reporter” for the tele stations….taking you in both locker rooms….think tve/sky/setanta/the beeb missed something there….lol….

Here’s hoping it’s a “safe” and exciting match…and all our Arsenal internationals return unscathed! (fingers crossed) :D

  42. george says:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2223414.ece

Some good news,,, Theo is expected back for the 24 Feb match against Roma

  43. jilli says:

If England wins Capello will be crowned unofficial King of England =) I think it could be a draw!

  44. george says:

Capello has done good things,,, I think Spain will win all the same

I just saw that Chelsea are talking to Hiddink,,, if they hire him it’s going to make the battle for 4th harder,,, as Hiddink is an amazing manager,,, anyone who can do what he did with Australia,,, has to be damn good

  45. Rose says:

This is a tricky one! I usually support Spain but against England it’s tricky lol If Cesc was playing it would be even trickier lol As my parents are english and I’ll be watching this with my Dad… and he’ll be singing “England till I die” so I’d be happy for Dad if England won but I think Spain probably will as Gerrard and Rooney are both out as well as Theo

Good luck to Eduardo! He is expected to play for Croatia tomorrow and to all the Arsenal boys playing :D

  46. jas says:

awwwwww It’s a shame Cescy can’t play. Though I’ll be supporting England even though I love Cescy I hope we win XD

  47. TA says:

    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard-sport/article-23637996-details/Gilberto%27s+back+with+change+on+his+mind/article.do

    Interesting article with Gilberto.

Feel sorry for Cesc and for Theo they will both be down not to be part of tomorrow’s friendly. Should be a close one.

  48. crazygal_miLa says:

i like his confidence towards Spain National Team!! though he cant play with them; he still wish them all the best!! :D

hopefully; Spain gonna win this game!! GO SPAIN!! VAMOS ESPANA!! :D
