Not a bad team! Congrats to all the players
Cesc Fabregas: red card
It was 3 years ago today that Cesc Fabregas received the one and only red-card of his career. Cesc was sent off in injury-time with one minute remaining, during Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Everton on January 21, 2006. A late scything challenge from Everton’s Cahill on Thierry Henry prompted a last-minute confrontation, which finished with Fabregas dismissed for grabbing the Australian by the throat. Cahill also collected a yellow card for the incident.
Arsene Wenger said, “I felt Fabregas did push Cahill so he might have deserved a red card but he [the referee] was lenient to Cahill though because he was pushing too, and he had just tried to catch Thierry Henry and got away with it.”
In this clip from De Par en Par, Cesc speaks with spanish ballet star Tamara Rojo, about being sent off
Here is a summary in english, thanks to Soarne for helping to translate this. Tamara asks Cesc if he has ever been sent off and he says, yes, once against Everton. And then he explains the play: he says there was a tackle from behind on his teammate and that the referee didn’t say anything. He went on to say, that he has always been the kind of player that tries to defend his teammates and that he reacted without thinking. He lost his temper in the heat of the moment and grabbed the other player by his throat, but that it was nothing really as he didn’t do it hard or hurt him.
In the clip he also shows Tamara the Arsenal dressing room and the jacuzzi. He says that they use it when they are tired and says “every time I see it I’m tired because I throw myself into it”.
Tamara then asked him about the shirt numbers: “Can you choose your number?”
Cesc says, “Yes, if nobody has it, because I wore 15 and now I wear 4. The #4 player went to Juventus and they asked me if I wanted to wear it and as it is my favorite number I did.”
Tamara says “the 4″ he says “yes, the 4″.
Cesc then shows her his boots. He says ‘These are the boots I usually wear”. He says there is a man in Italy that writes what the players want on them and he says for him, only number and name. Then he talks about the ‘cleats’ on the boots. He says that sometimes they wear rubber cleats but that the best cleats to wear are aluminum because they don’t get stuck in the ground and if your cleats stick that can cause knee injuries.
There are 17 photos of Cesc Fabregas from the match in the photo section

hi guys
so glad that cesc in the list . sagna should have been there too . he was great last season and clichy too. he barely made any mistake last season and was good .
about arshavin ,i dont know . i heard that zenit do this all the time to get maximum bid from the clubs . he started the game with declaring they are talking with arsenal to push other clubs to make bigger bids and then they turned down arsenal bid . the player is desperate to leave and every time arsene is asked about this story he seems confident .
i think we are moving for other players at the moment . arsene loves to make this in the dark or probably will make a last minute bid for players he likes . three weeks ago arsenal was linked with at least 8 players . surely at least one of them is a real target . he even made some bids but wre turned down by the player or his club .
cesc is in london at the moment recovering . i think he will strart his rehab in 2 weeks .
eduardo played yesterday the whole 90 minutes and he even scored a goal but was considered offside . his touches were amazing and magical .but the star was jack he scored two goals . he was great . what dudu misses at the moment is the sharpness that will come with playing more games .

I feel sorry for Arshavin too. He really is trapped and he has played at that club his whole life and he will be 28 in May. It is time for them to let him go so he can see if he can make it on a bigger stage than the russian league.

I hope you are right Sam.
One minute I read Arshavin talks are progressing the next minute I read they are not so at the moment I like to think there is a plan B. Hell a plan C even. We may need it!

Most blogs and gooner forums are saying the Arshavin thing is a dead duck, but I actually think it is looking good. The more time that passes with no one else making a serious bid for the dude, the better our chances get!

I was surprised to see Ferdinand isn’t in the uefa team,,, can’t stand the guy but he deserves to be there on merit imo

Well that’s academic TA because it’s impossible to get Messi
lol @ Matt
I feel sorry for Arshavin this quote from him really shows his frustration, “My hopes now rest with God. Apart from him, nobody can help me, I see Arsenal as my team of the future. Everything now depends on Zenit. If they want to sell me, they can do it very quickly.”
“My intentions to leave the club have not changed since the summer. It is obvious that in these times of [financial] crisis, no one will offer such a big amount. Zenit have to think realistically. I believe that Arsenal’s offer is much closer to my real value in the transfer market at the moment.”
I really hope this deal goes through for him and for us. Fingers crossed!

SSN are saying tomorrow is D-Day that Zenit will decide whether to accept or reject tomorrow and that no one else has made an offer for Arshavin…
If we have any other targets then we have kept them really really really quiet lol really in the last week who have we even been speculatively linked too apart from Arshavin?
If we have another target it’s probably someone the media never heard of and his dad will drop him and his teddy-bear off at training on the last day of the window.

Don’t despair fonz we could already be in negotiations with some other player(s) we usually do these things in private. The Arshavin circus just happens to have been very very public but it doesn’t mean we haven’t made any other enquiries. We might have a plan B…I really hope we have a plan B… because plan A is not looking so good… Even if Arshavin takes the drastic step of buying out his contract, he can’t do that until November… it’s going to be a very long 2009 at this rate for Andrei.

Thanks for helping out Plu! I’m glad Cesc is in the UEFA team though I was probably just as excited when Lionel Messi picked him in his lol … it’s sooo cute that they’re bff’s!!
I agree ~meri also your first red is like a rite of passage for all footballers and also I think these moments tell you as much about a player if not more… than the good times so I always am interested in these details

Welcome Plu and thanks for posting! Many good players get red cards look at Vieira! I think Cesc is calm most times but sometimes things get heated!

Thanks for the welcomes everybody.
That uefa team seems pretty much right to me. Although I agree about not trading Bacary for sergio.
The red card incident. He was young and it happens. It takes time to mature and control your anger, and he definitely is much better with controlling himself. The sticking up for thierry thing was sweet though.
But what we really need is video or pics of Cesc in the jacuzzi lol ;D lol. I completely agree.
I’m more impressed that Wenger “saw†the incident!That’s what I was thinking ^^
fonz- that’s what I thought when I read it. It seems to take Arsenal more than 6 days to negotiate for a player. I honestly do not know how 6 days is long enough. Arshavin’s agent also came out saying that Arshavin is thinking of buying out his contract if Zenit continue making it difficult for clubs to buy him. I was wondering whether the player actually pays for that get out clause, or whether the player gets reimbursed by the new club he goes to.

TA are you seriously asking if Rosie would trade Adebayor for Torres or Messi because I think anyone with a pulse would trade Ade for Messi…
Robbie96 I thought the same thing when I read the quote from Arsene haha!!

January 21, 2009
So are you saying you would trade Adebayor, Rosie?
Fonz look on the brightside at least we aren’t going to leave it until 11pm on Feb 2nd to think about signing someone else
TA
January 21, 2009
I agree with the uefa team for the most part but I wouldn’t trade our Bacary for Sergio and I think Villa is better than Torres.
Thanks Robbie

AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!! Supposedly we’ve issued Zenit with a 26th of Jan deadline to take or leave our 12 mill offer for Ashavin because GET THIS if they leave it then we are going to sign someone else. Whaaat? Us make a signing in 6 days when we can’t sign anyone in 26. FFS.

Cahill is quite a dirty player,,, hes got a track record. Still wasn’t a smart move by Cesc,,, learnt a lesson from it I’m sure as he would have hated serving the suspension,,, and hes never done it again
the Arshavin thing is beyond ridicilous,,, I’m done thinking about it
