Cesc taking a break from football

12 January 2009

Cesc Fabregas Cesc Fabregas, is currently taking a break from football after his knee injury, admitting it is painful not to be out there playing. He said, in the last match day programme: “To be honest, apart from watching the Arsenal games, I haven’t been following football much lately. I’m not really thinking about football, watching the games, following the transfer market, nothing.

“Of course I love watching Arsenal and will never miss a game when I can help it, but, apart from that, I’m just forgetting about everything to do with football.

“Even my girlfriend is surprised because it’s unusual for me, but, to be honest, I am off football until I can start to get fit again.

“I just have to be patient and try to enjoy a holiday.

“In the last five years I haven’t been able to take any type of holiday because even during the summer I have been playing for the national team, so it’s been constant.

I think in six years I’ve only ever had three consecutive weeks without football. For Arsenal and Spain, I think I’ve played 270 games. For a 21-year-old that’s not normal. I guess, at one stage this had to happen.

“It is the most difficult part of being injured, not being able to get out there and touch the ball and be there with your team-mates. It is a bit painful, but I know I must accept it. All players will go through times like this in their career, and now is my moment to experience it.

Cesc Fabregas staying philosphical “I will just have to stay as positive as I can until I am back playing again. I want to relax as much as possible and I’m sure I’ll come back stronger.

“There are still a few more weeks of resting and it’s difficult because I cannot really do anything at the moment. So it’s a good time to go away on holiday, make the most of it, and hopefully it will help to pass the time quicker.

“I just want these next few weeks to go as quickly as possible so I can start to get fit again.

“But I am in really, really good hands. I am seeing a doctor in Barcelona who is the best in Europe for treating knee injuries, and at Arsenal we have Colin Lewin who is a great physio, so I’m not worried about it.”

Cesc will return to the club next month to further his rehabilitation. We hope Cesc enjoys his holiday. The Times seem to think he is vacationing at an exotic beach somewhere – sounds nice!

We’ve added a few more pictures to the photo section including two taken by Martin Caparotta at the Emirates and donated to the site. Thanks Martin!

Goal.com have been counting down the top 50 footballers of 2008. Cesc came in at number 8! You can read their nice write up here.

Kim Li it is interesting I mean Arshavin is absolutely desperate for a transfer,,, hopefully he gets one and too us,,, but it is dragging on,,, have no idea how it will turn out.

    I see this

Andrei Arshavin has withdrawn from the Zenit St Petersburg squad that will go on a pre-season tour to the United Arab Emirates this month. The Russian club want about £19 million for the forward, who has been linked with Arsenal. Arshavin has said that if he were not allowed to leave this month, he would remain a Zenit player “on paper only”.

    interesting no?

  12. mj says:

I saw that too matt lol I didn’t put it up becos between me thinking Cesc should have been higher and not being a huge fan of the wanker winner… it just didn’t seem that interesting :D

hi robbie :D I was thinking the same thing. I think he really needed a break! Just a pity about the circumstances.

BTW I’ve just joined facebook… I’ve always been a bebo gal but anyhoo I wanted to be able to add myself to Cescs. I set up a 4cesc.com account the email is Rose [@] 4cesc.com or just look for MJ Rose. If anyone wants to add us feel free but at the moment the account is totally empty sorry cos I haven’t had time to set it up.

  13. matt says:

Being injured is so frustrating. Best thing he can do is zone out and recharge the batteries.

I saw Cesc was 15th on the FIFA world player of the year list. I thought he should have been higher

  14. ~meri says:

    have a good holiday captain!

  15. Robbie96 says:

Thanks MJ…it’s nice to hear Cescito is taking a break from football….270 matches for a 21 year old sounds like “burn out” was around the corner….now he can kick back and put his leg up and sip an umbrella drink or two! :D

  16. plu says:

looool I only just read the times article. It is really funny how they take the mick out of him repeating holiday five times.

  17. Rose says:

lol Well george you probably have dreams about everyones cooking because you can’t boil water yourself :D It would be so great to have you home if you can get some time off to visit us – I promise at least 2 pavlovas and I will throw in a chocolate cake too :)

Well fonz lol – as an arsenal supporter you should be used to these transfer window sagas. I’m still trying to ignore everything until something definite happens

  18. fonz says:

    thanks for the update

i’m so sick of this arshavin thing now lol i hope something happens one way or the other soon!

  19. TA says:

Last week he went to the game… this week he is “off football” lol I predict his “forgetting about football” is probably already over… if it isn’t… I doubt he will last much longer. I’d bet a tenner he took a peak at the Chelsea – Manchester United game :D

  20. george says:

I’m really tempted to do just that Sambo,,, Rosie if I come home for a few weeks will you make me pavlova?,,, I still have dreams about your cooking!

  21. siew lan says:

I hope Cesc has a nice holiday he shud come Malaysia we have beautiful resorts!!

  22. emma says:

So happy for Cesc coz he is in the world top 10…..no 8 is very good considering his age.

cesc deserved his holiday even he got it due to injury….go n enjoy yourself Cesc..you had worked hard enough….n come back fresh…..

Don fret about not playing now as you will have years of football in future n hope it will be much better for you than now.

As for Arsenal…GOOD LUCk for the next game…

  23. Rose says:

That’s one good thing to come out of this situation – that Cesc gets to have a holiday. I hope he is somewhere warm having a relax :D

Kate don’t worry I think the team will be psyched up for the game against Hull. It will be a good chance for them to win again and build more confidence because our form really suffered after we lost to them last September and we need to exorcise the “hull city” demons :D

  24. jilli says:

    thanks for the pics!! =)

  25. bri says:

I think it’s great for him to take a complete physical and mental break. He has played a huge number of top level games for a 21 yr old so he probably really needed this although no player ever wants to be injured

  26. plu says:

O_O He’s seriously taking a break from football?!! I swear a while back I read an article in which he said that even when he was on holiday he ended up watching football matches on the tv. Lol.Taking a break is good. And he gets to spend more time with his family.
He’s lucky to have got this far without a serious injury, it was bound to happen at some time.

number 8.XD Definitely deserved to be in the top 10. Well done Cesc.

It’s raining here. The last few weeks have been ridiculously cold.It would have been worth it if there had been a good batch of snow. I don’t know how the footballers go out and train/play in this weather. No amount of money could make me go out in that cold,in shorts.

  27. mj says:

Hi mimmy :D The newspapers weren’t specific about his holiday plans, I’ve just posted what they said :D

Sam pls stop showing-off just because you are in Summer…it’s snowing here…sob

Hi Sandriita :D if you send an e-mail to a player there is no guarantee that they will reply but hopefully they will :D If the player does reply and they do speak spanish then hopefully they would reply in the language you wrote in.

Thanks kate, jas and rummba glad you liked them

  28. rummba says:

Oh Cesc. I’m glad he’s taking a good and proper break but I’m also sad to think that he’s sad he’s not getting to play. I really hope he enjoys his holiday becasue damn it he deserves it!

    And I loved the photos!

Other than that yeah. I think Arsenal is really missing Cesc’s magic. Play isn’t as amazing and not nearly as creative without him in it. Here’s to hoping he’ll come back refreshed, well-rested and he completely blows everyone’s minds away!

  29. Mimmy says:

Oww…I am missing Cesc =(.He deserves a holiday…does anyone know where he went?!?!And with whom?!?!

Hope we get some photos of this holiday.

    Xxx Mimmy xxX

  30. rizzzi says:

kick back + relax cesc XD then come back better than ever!!

  31. sam says:

Hi Sandriita do you mean an e-mail to Robin van Persie or to Cesc?

  32. sandriita says:

someone know if I send a e-mail in spanish ,do they answer me in spanish???

  33. sHica says:

haiy pliz help me.. i cant find the photos

  34. sam says:

Hi Kate :) I think we can beat Hull they have not been playing so well recently.

I don’t know if van persie has an official site but you can send a message to players through arsenal.com just look for the contact us and then send it via the supporters centre just put a note that the message is for van persie and the club will hopefully pass it along.

George, man don’t hate me but we are having beautiful weather here in the most beautiful country on earth :D It’s a great summer and the surf has been fantastic this year :D You need to take some leave and come home for a few weeks!

  35. sandriita says:

    jajja he deserves it

  36. kate says:

thanks mj for the photos . Wow cesc is really taking a break from football .cant believe it . But anyway he is getting the rest he deserves . Man utd won against chelsea . Gutted . I am afraid from our next game with hull . Our defence wasnt tested in the last couple of games . I am just afraid . Does anyone know the official website of van persie or his email or anyway through which i can contact him ?
    Thanks
    Go gunners

  37. jas says:

    thanks for the pics! XD

Hope Cesc is having a good holiday wish I was at the beach or anywhere warm and exotic would do haha

  38. fonz says:

Is Cesc saying hes been over-played? Maybe he has. I don’t know. Well he certainly will get a holiday now and hopefully he comes back refreshed

  39. george says:

I definitely wish I was on holiday somewhere warm,,, can’t believe how bloody cold a winter we’re having. We really miss Cesc’s play-making skills,,, can’t wait till hes back!

  40. max says:

Good to hear the lad is taking the time to switch off may as well use the bad luck of being injured to take a chance to kick back and de-stress
