Arsenal 1 – 0 Bolton

Thanks to a goal from Nicklas Bendtner in the 83rd minute Arsenal took the full 3 points against Bolton Wanderers, a team who’s ambitions didn’t seem to extend beyond a nil-all draw. With Liverpool dropping points against Stoke, only 8 points now separate the top 5 teams in the premiership. Full match report here.

Aldeas Infantiles Calendar

Mr February Cesc Fabregas, Miguel Torres, Fernando Verdasco, Oscar Pereiro and 8 other spanish celebrities are featured in the ‘Calendario Solidario Runner´s World 2009.’ A calendar for the benefit of Aldeas Infantiles SOS that has been released by Runners World magazine in Spain. Cesc is an ambassador for Aldeas Infantiles and he is also Mr February! The calendar costs 4.95 Euros (I think) and proceeds will go to help disadvantaged children. Here is a link for more info and how to order for those of you in Spain, it gives you the full list of those featured. You can watch a video of the making of the calendar here.

UEFA Team of 2008 – Following on from the post below. Real Madrid’s Pepe has slected his Team of 2008 from the UEFA nominees and like Messi, Kun and Senna he has included Cesc: Casillas (Real Madrid), Jose Boswinga (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Marcos Senna (Villareal), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Real Madrid), David Villa (Valencia), Lionel Messi (Barcelona) Luis Aragones, (coach). Pepe said he selected Cesc because, “He brings a lot to both the Arsenal and Spain teams. He’s got lots of skills and raises the level of every midfield.”

Official site – Cesc Fabregas Soler’s official site has added some nice photos of Cesc and his family from the making of the Nike Live: Cesc Fabaregas Show and they have added a gadget to make it easy for you to find Cesc’s official facebook account, if you haven’t already head over there and get added!

  • Well Manure won. Chelski were hopeless. Manchester United have 2 games in hand and if they win them both will take the lead by 1 making it a 9 pt race. If Chelsea keep playing like that…they could be the ones in the battle for fourth though

  • Oh. And Zenit rejected a 10 million bid from Arsenal for Arshavin. Their 20 million valuation is way high. He’s cup tied, so that brings his valuation down a lot. And his contract is running out soon, so I don’t think it’s wise for them to be demanding 20 million. I do think 10 million is too low for him though- 15 million is more the mark. And apparently, Man city want him.I know they can outbid us but Arshavin has said he wants to play at a big club, which man city aren’t right now.And they won;t get into the cl for another 2 years at least.

  • mj-I meant the cesc calender you made for everybody for christmas, and the official arsenal calender.

Yesterday was frustrating once again. But I’m not going to complain because right now, a win is a win. And we have usually struggled with Bolton in the past. But I think Vela should definitely be brought on as a sub. Not so sure if he is ready to start games. Once he comes on, he actually runs at the defenders. And the formation changes as well. That formation in the last 20 mins suited us. The team had so much drive then. And it was good to see the fans getting behind the team in the last 20 mins.

  • Thanks George.

Max it’s going to be an interesting match this afternoon and I think a draw is a real possibility…

We looked a lot more effective once Nasri shifted to the middle after Vela came on. I thought Vela, Nasri and van Persie did well. Also Toure and Djourou played well although they didn’t have the busiest of days as we had 77% possession. Sagna is always dependable too.

Anyway, Arsene knows best. He continued with Bendtner when most armchair experts wanted him dropped and he saved our arse today

  • Thanks Sheila :D

Considering all our injuries I was very happy that we won. This is not our first choice team and certainly not our first choice midfeild and we were playing against a team that parked 11 men behind the ball for 90 minutes. If we can keep grinding out wins until some of our injured players are fit and back in the team, then I think we can have a good second half to the season.

Also I was really happy for Nick. Suck on that boo-boys!

  • Diaby was pretty atrocious I have to say which is disappointing. I had high hopes for him.

e so miss Cesc hope he is on the mend. Can’t wait till he is back. We are a mid-table team at best without Cesc in our side.

BTW awesome awesome site. Only just found it and love it!!

  • I was pleased we got three points. At the end of the day, it was a boring frustrating game but if we had lost or drawn it would have been much worse. Bolton deserved nothing from the game and that is what they got. Good.

To those who say we lacked creativity you are right, but it is very hard to show creativity or play with fluency against a team that comes to park the bus. It will always be tough to break such teams down, and so we should be happy that we did.

  • I was a doubter about the wisdom of even having Arshavin as a target but after today I am converted. There is so little intelligence, vision and creativity in the side now. Getting in players who can put some bite back in our toothless attack has to be a priority.

Now we might not get Arshavin, we might not get anyone, but we have to hope things will work out for the gunners and we’ll have some luck in the window, because we are so short on spark

Glad we didn’t drop any points but we are going to need to up our game still to make sure of 4th

    January 10, 2009

  • Positives: Glad we won. Happy for Bendtner. Samir and Robin had good games.

Negatives: Eboue, Denilson, Diaby and Ade were poor. Bolton’s tactics. What has become of our fluency? Even playing against a block defence their is no excuse for so little off the ball movement.

    Where is the real Arsenal?

NY-Gunner, Wenger said just a week or so ago that he would rotate the captaincy with Cesc out.

  • the less said about that the better some games don’t need analysis… 3 pts is 3 pts and with the kop dropping 2 pts. The title race is tightening up again as wenger predicted

    NY-Gunner

    January 10, 2009

  • It was so cold. I swear I could barely feel my feet sitting in the stands. So no excuses for how static we were in the final third you’d have thought the lads would be moving just to keep warm.

Boltons tactics were cynical in the extreme. But in a way they did not hurt us because I am not completely confident in our defence and Bolton simply never really attacked and that has it’s advantages for us. We broke them down in the end and by doing so could grab 3 pts.

The team were booed off at the half but the atmosphere picked up in the second half and the only player really singled out by some of the supporters for jeering was Bendtner so it was poetic justice when he scored.

Two goals in two games for Nick that should give him a boost.

We might be taking the winning ugly philosophy a tad too far at the moment. I mean really it was fairly awful stuff.

I hope we get Arshavin, or someone creative, we were well short of creativity today and really feel the absence of Cesc.

  • A win is a win. I know I seem to be saying that a lot lately but there isn’t much else to say… I won’t talk about our midfield because I don’t want to start crying.

We kept a clean sheet and apart from some dodgey moments when it seemed communication between Al and the back 4 broke down, we looked alright, so there’s a positive.

  • Sorry for the confusion I tried to order the calendar and I couldn’t – I put in all the info and went through to the payment page and it said it accepted Visa and Mastercard and so I put visa and it just kept rejecting my visa – and I think it was because it was a foreign credit card. Also there was no step for shipping and I would have needed to pay more for shipping than for the calendar lol and so I don’t think they’re set up for international orders.

Sorry for the quality of the pic I know it’s really fuzzy but it gives you some impression at least :D I’m sure a better quality version of the picture will turn up at some stage.

  • I thought Toure was the vice captain. He was when Gallas was captain. I think the only reason big Al had the armband was because Toure was not starting. Wenger has just said with Fab out that Toure is captain when he plays. I don’t think that is a change IIRC

    Correct me if wrong

  • Hey I just read that Kolo is going to be the captain while Cesc is injured. The timing is bad with all the news about his transfer request it doesn’t half sound like it was a carrot to make him stay and I think the captaincy should be based on ability not used as a sweetener imo

I don’t know about the ordering sorry. I’ll see if I can work it out (yeah right!) we actually didn’t find it that easy to even find the order form on the runners.es site lol They let you specify a country though so maybe you can have it shipped? I’ll check.
