Cesc will not require surgery

Above is a clip of Cesc visiting a clinic in Barcelona to seek a second opinion on his injury. You can view another hq clip of him leaving and speaking with the media here.

Sport.es and EFE have reported that Cesc will not need to undergo surgery. So that is some good news. Cesc visited a specialist, Dr. Cujat, in Barcelona today and told media, “After consulting with the best doctor possible, we have decided not to operate. If it had been necessary I would have done so without hesitation, but the doctor does not recommend surgery, because I am young and have not damaged the meniscus.”

An optimistic Cesc added, “My intention is to return as soon as possible to help my team-mates. I will endeavor to return as soon as possible as there is nothing I like more than playing football.

“It’s my first serious injury and it had to happen some day. You can not always be injury free. Now I must remain optimistic and look to the future.”

Cesc injured He also said that he bore Xabi Alonso no hard-feelings, “Xabi has been very concerned for me. He came to see me after the game and we have been exchanging messages. He even called me before my consultation with the doctor. These things happen in football, Xabi is a great friend of mine.”

Sport.es reports that Cesc will spend his Christmas with friends and family in Barcelona for the first time since joining Arsenal. So that is a slight silver-lining for him! We hope he has a great Christmas!

Cesc ruled out until April 2009

Arsene Wenger has given a press conference and advised that Cesc’s injury will rule him out of playing until April 2009. Here are his comments from Arsenal.com

“The news is not good because it is a partial rupture of the medial knee ligament which is taking three to four months injury time,” revealed Wenger at his pre-match press conference. “We count four, we know he will be working very hard to come back earlier but I count four months.

“How much [we will miss him] is difficult to say, the only thing we can say for sure is that we will miss him of course. We have to find a way to compensate for the fact he will not be on the pitch, and give everybody a bit more. I am sure we can deal with it. When he comes back he can help us to get over the line in the final months.

“The challenge [by Alonso] was fair and honest, I have no problem with it. It is exactly what I have said many times, it is the kind of thing you accept in the game that can happen. I don’t feel there was any intention to hurt, it was purely accidental.

“The first really difficult period [for Fabregas] is the first six weeks, when you are in a brace and cannot move at all. You cannot practise. When they take the brace off, you can have rehabilitation and be busy all day. It is a massive blow because Cesc is a competitor who wants to play every day. If you play six games in a week he will want to play six games.

“It is a blow [to lose him] of course, but we can show we have the strengths to deal with it. Of course it is a blow to lose Fabregas in the middle of the season – for four months – but it is a good opportunity to show we can deal with it and have the needed strengths.” You can watch his press conference here.

Let’s all hope Cesc has a swift recovery. Also, let’s hope that he and his loved ones are still able to enjoy a merry Christmas despite this bad news.

If you would like to send a ‘get well soon’ message to Cesc I would suggest that you send a message via the contact page of Cesc’s official site or alternatively email contacte@cescfabregassoler.com. I will also gather up all of the nice comments that you leave here and send them through to the official site later. The official site is run by Cesc’s family. They may not have the time to respond to each message, but they can let Cesc know that he was in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

  • I felt most upset today. Strange huh. There was something about watching the team come out without Cesc and the whole injury and how long it will be before he plays again just hit me and then of course with the late equaliser. I just really feel our season is hopeless now.

    Anyway…hope you had a good xmas… this is a nice site btw…

Now I just have to pray for the team and hope they can keep Arsenal in 4th at the very least. I guess it’s going to be interesting to see what happens in the window. I guess if Cesc can stay optimistic I should try and do the same

  • A cruel blow. It will be tough for Cesc. He has a fitness level that he has built over years. Six weeks in a brace will result in significant muscle loss in that area and significant loss of fitness. I am sure he has the discipline and the determination to get back to top condition very quickly but it will be tough.

If you don’t mind passing my sympathies and best wishes along with everyone elses I would appreciate it. I was not confident that the page on the official site was working? Probably just me being a luddite.

  • goddammit! Not our season.

Cesc is a fighter. He’ll come through this. I hope gooners will have patience and keep the faith with Wenger through this time. That’s my main concern to be honest with ya. Cesc will bounce back he’s young and he’s made of the right stuff but Arsene is under-fire and this is going to place tremendous pressure on him. I hope fans will show Arsene some support.

  • I’ll send a message through the official site.

I do hope Arsene will strengthen the squad but even so it is probably too late for this season now. I mean this is a team of individuals with no cohesive partnerships and bringing in new players is not going to change that fundamental issue, as partnerships take time. Nevertheless we need additions but we need them and Cesc, not instead of. I guess 2009/2010 is going to have to be our season now.

I hope the captain has a good recovery and as others have said hopefully it will be a good time to re-charge his batteries.

  • Wow. What a xmas gift for him huh. I remember him saying he doesn’t want to talk to people when he’s injured- 4 months out is really going to upset him. I really hope he does get better soon.

As for Arsenal- cesc was the only positive thing of our midfield. We can also see without cesc, how our team lacks creativity. Now with him gone, how the heck is our midfield going to survive 4 months? Wenger said this injury was probably going to make him look at the tranfer window, so I guesshe realises that Arsenal have been riding their luck with cesc in midfield, and now we do need someone to replace him for a bit. But will there really be anyone good availale in january for the best price? As much as I love the young players coming through, I don’t see how they can play for 4 months as cesc’s replacement. And denilson…he’s not creative enough.
That said, theo will be back in feb, eduardo in january, and rosicky in march, hopefully.

That means he also misses the cl. I was really hoping we would be able to get far in the cl, and I’m still hoping our current team will be able to….

    I’ll send a message later.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas Cesc and a great 2009. Time to get in a few extra box sets and a stack of books. Take it easy, rest and recuperate. You are just at the beginning of your career, the best is yet to come with so much to look forward too. This is just a temporary set back and you’ll be back soon. See you then!

  • Hi Tess, yes it’s hard to stay optimistic in the face of so much bad news.

One thing I haven’t posted and when I get a chance later I’ll post a translation is that Sport.es did mention that Cesc’s mother was in London and was at the Liverpool game and was spending Christmas with him, so I’m sure he has lots of support and people around him taking good care of him so that’s good.

i also hope dat Cesc will be optimistic juz like Eduardo in terms of his recovery – be positive thinking, happy & calm thru-out da entire recovery process.. who knows; he may come back in less than 4 mths.. hehehe.. :)

to sum up my post; Cesc shd take this chance to really take a break from football & enjoy himself while recuperating.. we; being Cesc & Gunners fans will alwaz be rite behind supporting him!! :)

  • this is so frustrating. I mean I love Arsenal and Cesc but I just cannot see them winning anything this season especially without cesc… terrible feeling. Cesc is the core of the team and we all depend on him so much– you could see how the team did against mancity…so imagine our “super-creative-midfield” with song & denilson for the next 4 months. :(
but… you have to say that he’s just got so much class, taking EVEN things like THAT positively, or at least trying it… :) really glad about it. =D

  • Dear Cesc,
Just want to let you know that you’re in all us gooners thoughts, hearts and prayers and we’re all hoping and wishing for your speedy recovery. This must be extremely frustrating for you, but if possible, stay strong and be positive!
I remember an interview you gave to Football Focus a few weeks back about how much you admired Eduardo because he was able to remain happy and calm about his injury. We all hope you’ll have the same spirit as him and work hard towards your comeback!
Look on the bright side; here’s the time for you to rest, recharge and in a few months, return to the pitch where you belong as Arsenal captain :)
As for Arsenal, don’t worry. To coin a common phrase, “Arsene knows.”

Rest well, take your mind off football for a bit (if possible) and get back to having fun like a normal 21-year-old. We all love you, hot stuff!

    Love,
