West Ham 0 – 2 Arsenal

Cesc Fabregas congratulates Adebayor A great result for the gunners! Second-half substitute Emmanuel Adebayor forced an own goal in the 75th minute and then made sure of the three points with a goal in the dying minutes. Arsenal remain 4th in the league, 1 point behind Chelsea and 4 points off leaders Liverpool.

Cesc Fabregas put in a strong defensive performance and made some class passes. His perfect ball to van Persie that released Walcott was one of the best of the game but a great save from West Ham’s Green denied Theo a goal. You can view a match report at The BBC. First of the match photos are in the photo section Video highlights below of the second goal, hopefully we’ll have a better clip later.

  • hello everyone!! :)

Arsenal performance was okie; though i expected them to be better.. but it’s okie; they’ll bounce back to their winning form when they face against Spurs in da mindweek.. :)

Cesc was typical in his game; doing all da wonderful passing, making da runs both offensively & defensively, etc.. he seems to be everywhere in da field!! haha.. :D

next team – Spurs!! show them wat Arsenal are made of!!

    GO GUNNERS!! :)

  • Song was good in the centre of midfield, and might be a better option than Denilson but I’m not convinced he contributed towards Cesc`s performance. I think Cesc was strong defensively and of course bought the passing game that we all know and love but I think it’s a stretch to say Song was the reason. If anything I thought there were a couple of times in the first half when there was a lack of understanding.

  • Well I thought Fab was sublime! Back to his absolute best. Nothing tired, average or ok about him. I thought the partnership with Song worked very well and I think showed itself to be a better option than the Fabregas-Denilson pairing.

I thought that Fab got the balance between his defensive and offensive duties perfect and delivered a really complete performance!

  • You just make sure you are a good fan bri or Rosie and I will tickle you into submission, we have ways of making you praise Cesc!! lol

Very well said Rosie and DC Wash. I find it frustrating that Cesc will sometimes have a good game and provide quality passes but because they’re not converted some people don’t recognize that he has played a good game.

Sambo thank you for loading the pics. I’ll go and find some more :D

  • I just want to echo Rose’s sentiments. Even on an average day, his passing is still far superior than anyone elses. Not only does he connect with most passes and not only does he try to be positive and create something, but almost every pass is weighted perfectly and inch perfect. The passes don’t just ‘connect’, they make his team-mates look better. They are easy passes to receive, regardless of how difficult the passes Cesc sometime has to receive and control.

I think George had a point Cesc’s ‘perceived’ performance often depends on what others do with his passes. In that way he is not master of how he is ‘rated’. If van Persie had done better with a couple of Cesc’s passes his performance would be being raved about. Likewise If Adebayor and Walcott had not finished those sublime passes against Fener people would have been less generous in their praise.

  • The thing about Cesc is he always makes a big difference for us. That is why Wenger does not rest him or sub him even when we are ahead. He is indispensable.

  • *glomps* Rosie! I’m sorry if what I wrote was a bit of a downer. I promise to give Cesc the support and appreciation he deserves and not to be a bad fan anymore.

I agree George, why can’t the opposition keeper ever have a bad day against Arsenal? I mean wtf is that about they always play like freaking ninjas when they play us.

  • Did y’all watch the same game as me?? First off we won and it was a hard fought win. So that was great

Second off Cesc was probably our best player, aside from Adebayor. He was very influential. His passing was very sharp over all – though we lacked a bit of off the ball movement at times up-front. He was our top creative source as per usual even though playing in a deeper lying position, possibly by design or possibly because he needed to cover Song’s positional mistakes, I don’t know. He deserves support and appreciation for what he brings to the team and he was awesome in defence.

It was a pity the ref didn’t spot the keeper grabbing that through ball from Cesc from outside of the box. Damn cheat.

  • I know rvp was unlucky I guess I worded that wrong what I mean is rvp seems to be under some kind of non-scoring spell I’m not blaming him but you know how players go thru patches where it doesn’t seem to matter how right they do things it just won’t happen for them, it just seems like the last couple matches rvp is that guy. Ya know,,,

To be fair their keeper was their best player by a mile,,, we were actually a lot less wasteful than we were against Everton. So don’t mind me. lol

    It was a good result.

  • I was maybe a bit harsh in what I wrote lol I mean we won! Cesc played quite well actually… you’re rite Sambo I do have very high expectations of Cesc and I’m looking for certain things so if he plays a slightly different role I can think he hasn’t played as well as he has. I guess I’m actually wanting to see him really have a motm performance just to shut up the people who have been syaing he’s not on form this season :D

Great job with the photos Sambo, mj will be pleased with you!

George I think that’s a bit harsh on Robin. I didn’t see him being wasteful with any of Cesc’s passes. He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet today.

  • sorry it’s a bit slow here but mj and Rosie both had things on today and I’m on me lonesome. Haven’t had to do photos before and it’s pretty painful

Now onto Cesc. I thought he did ok today. I think everybody has very high expectations of the lad though so if he doesn’t play a blinder, it’s natural to kind of think “huh? what happened” poor ol’ Cesc a victim of his own high standards lol Anyway, when 3 of 4 midfielders you used to play with are not in the team anymore – gone or injured – it´s clear your game has to change a lot. Against Fenerbahce, he had 2 assists, today he was pretty good. His role has changed a lot. Today he seemed to almost have the sitting role and Song seemed to be more forward – which frankly seemed a little odd – but perhaps Cesc decided he needed to defend more. Anyway, he will have to get used to the players playing around him and that will take some time…

    October 26, 2008

  • Good team performance overall. Wenger still not done with tinkering with the midfield and the role he wants each of them to play it seems. I don’t think Cesc is benefiting much from the constant changes but he was good on defence today.

    October 26, 2008

  • Not Cesc’s best game but he had a good game defensively and our midfield didn’t fire full stop so he had lots of company. I thought we’d already tried Song and Cesc in the middle and established it wasn’t the answer. I would rather have seen Diaby given a shot.

    October 26, 2008

  • Cesc is gonna have to stop providing Robin with his best creative work if he wants to see it come to something. Cos rvp couldn’t hit the back of a bus with a banjo at the moment, hopefully he’ll get his mojo working soon.

    3 points ,,, I’ll take it :P
