Charity of the season
24 August 2008
Arsenal have announced that the Teenage Cancer Trust will be the club’s charity for the 2008/2009 season. The be a gooner be a giver campaign aims to raise 300K over the next year to pay for a day care centre for teenage cancer patients at University College hospital, North London.
As part of the launch activities, Cesc Fabregas, Manuel Almunia, Arsene Wenger and Faye White, visited the University College Hospital teenage cancer ward
Cesc also spent time talking with the press. There is an in-depth interview with The Guardian which I will add to the collection of press interviews we have on the site. There are also interviews in The Independent and The Telegraph.
Arsenal.com has more details about this worthy cause.
Injury Update
Cesc is still recovering from a hamstring injury and has been ruled out for the match against Fulham. However, he is expected to return to action in this week’s Champions League qualifier against FC Twente. Let’s hope things go to plan!
UEFA Club awards nominee
Cesc Fabregas was named on a 20-strong list of nominations for the Uefa club footballer of the year award. You can view the complete list which was drawn up by Uefa’s technical observers. The winners will be named during the draw for this season’s Champions League group stage in Monaco next Thursday. Congrats Cesc!
No credit Cesc
According to the Mirror, Cesc had not one but TWO credit cards rejected when trying to buy some ladies dinner at Studio Valbonne earlier in the week. In the end he had to resort to the ever dependable foldable stuff. Yep, actual money… how retro. Ha ha ha … with it being the Mirror it may of course be untrue but it still gave me a laugh. Doesn’t he have an accountant to make sure his cards are current and his credit card bill gets paid? The story is here.
